What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I don’t have any professional experience with cat sitting, but like I said earlier, I’ve lived with cats my entire life. When I was younger, I worked at two different vet clinics. I currently don’t live with any cats, but I do babysit my brother’s cat quite often, who is a munchkin cat (photos included in my profile). Additionally, I’ve watched other family members cats on occasion.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Every cat has their own unique personality and I think spending time with different cats would be enjoyable. Anytime I cat sit for my brother, she’ll give me attention when she’s ready so it’s nice to just relax and watch TV, play some games or do work. I currently work hybrid, so I spend a lot of time at home which would make cat sitting easy for me.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I’d say find someone who genuinely likes cats and is patient w/ different personalities. It also helps to choose someone who will actually spend a little time with your cat during visits instead of just doing the basics and leaving. Clear communication and updates are always a plus, too.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

First and foremost, keep the doors and windows closed to prevent escapes, follow the feeding and care instructions, avoid giving anything that they’re not supposed to have (unless approved by the owner). Watch for signs of stress and illness and keep the cats away from hazards like small objects or cords. My goal is to make sure the cat(s) feel comfortable and safe and for the owners to feel confident leaving their home in my care.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, I am usually available. I don’t travel anywhere during the holidays, typically, unless it’s a super rare, special occasion. Either way, I’ll keep my calendar updated, but more than likely I will always be available for all holidays.

What is your favorite cat toy?

There’s so many I like, but my favorite is simple: the feather on a fishing rod. Watching the cats go crazy for that is incredibly entertaining. Fleur would grab the feather and drag the stick down the hallway. Every time I’d laugh out loud hearing the stick dragging on the floor.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Moving slowly and giving them space so they don’t feel pressured. I let them come to me when they’re ready and try to keep things calm and quiet during visits. Sometimes just sitting nearby and letting them get used to my presence helps them feel more comfortable/relaxed.
