What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I’ve been cat sitting since I was a kid! The neighbors used to hire me to pet sit their cats, dogs, fish, and even birds while they travelled. I’m a regular cat sitter for my friends in Astoria and my sister. I’ve babysat for cats who need medication, shy, friendly, and all in between!
Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?
An orange cat who is a Velcro cat. I’ve petsit for him a few times, and now when I walk in, we have a routine — he runs right up to me and I sit down, and he jumps onto my shoulder for me to pick him up, give him pets, and walk around!
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
Give them the space they need and make sure that they know I am a safe space for them. I never move around fast or loudly, and if they are nearby, I’ll sit and let them observe me and offer out a hand if they are keen to explore. I always speak in an even, friendly tone even if they aren’t around, so they can get used to my presence. I’ll sit on the couch even if they are hiding and watch some tv so that they are aware I stay for a bit and they can hang out, if they chose to do so.

Joanna has always been my go to cat sitter. My cat always immediately greats her at the door and often chooses her lap over mine. She has always been there to help out with my cat and truly is the only person I would ask to watch after my cat when I’m out of town.

Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.

Astoria cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $32.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
