Cat Sitting in Jamaica, NY
My feline family currently consists of two adorably unique cats: Nemo, my sweet and gentle girl. She came into my life as a rescued stray with a broken paw, much like Nemo from Finding Nemo with his injured fin. Then, there’s Milo, another rescue stray. He's a ball of energy, always up for a good chase or playful pounce. They may be as different as they come, but together they bring endless joy to my life!
I had the pleasure of cat-sitting for a family with four cats – each with a uniquely different personality! – from 2022 up until they moved away earlier this year... Hi! My name is Katera and I’m a third-year student St. John’s University. Growing up surrounded by cats, I've developed a deep love for these beautiful creatures. My love for cats has led me on a journey filled with meaningful experiences that have not only strengthened my understanding of cat behavior but also fostered my ability to provide exceptional care.

I had the pleasure of cat-sitting for a family with four cats – each with a uniquely different personality! – from 2022 up until they moved away earlier this year. From playtime to administering oral medication, I ensured each cat got the care, love and attention they deserved when their owners were away.
In 2021, I volunteered at an animal shelter dedicated to special needs animals. Here, I interacted with cats who required specialized attention due to chronic illnesses, physical limitations, or behavioral challenges. I assisted with feeding schedules, litter box maintenance, and enrichment activities, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being was prioritized. This experience not only expanded my cat care skillset but also instilled a profound respect for the resilience and adaptability of special needs animals.
At the height of the pandemic in 2020, I stumbled upon two abandoned kittens, no older than 6 weeks, left in a shoebox on the sidewalk. Without hesitation, I took them in, providing them with the care and comfort they desperately needed until I found a loving forever home for them.
These experiences have shaped me into a compassionate and responsible cat caregiver. I understand how important it is for cats to feel safe, secure, and cared for when their owners are away, and I can assure you that your cats' happiness and well-being will be my top priority.

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I cat sat for a family with four cats from May 2022 up until earlier this year when they moved away. Each cat had their own distinct personality with different needs, and this experience has taught me how to care for a variety of personalities when it comes to cats.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I love the process of developing a sense of trust between myself and cats when cat sitting. No two cats are alike, so whether that connection is created by engaging in a playtime session or understanding that they would prefer some space at first, being able to learn how to best develop a connection when cat sitting is so special to me.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
As an owner of a shy cat, I know how important it is to give anxious cats space. It can be hard for them to warm up to new people, so I will keep my distance while ensuring they know I am here to care for them. Patience and gentleness are necessary when caring for all cats, especially those that are timid and anxious.

Katera was great! She took care of my daughter's two cats (a Maine Coon and a kitten) over the Thanksgiving weekend. Communication was great, and she was clearly loving with the cats, playing with them and even getting the shy kitty out from hiding (plus, she cleaned up a couple of messes!). We will definitely use her again!

Katera was awesome! In addition to taking care of the necessities (feeding my kitty and taking care if her litter box), she really took the time to play with her and cuddle with her every day so that she'd have company while I was away. I'll definitely be hiring her whenever I go on a trip again.

Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

- January 16-22: MLK Day
- February 13-19: Presidents Day
- May 22-28: Memorial Day
- June 16-22: Juneteenth
- July 1-7: July 4th

On Tuesdays, I have class from 9:00-12:00 and Wednesdays, I have class from 10:30-1:30. On some weekends, I work until noon, but please reach out so I can let you know my full availability.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Jamaica cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $33.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.
Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
