Elaine's Cat Care - Brooklyn Manhattan

I'm Elaine

Cat Sitting in Brooklyn, NY

Hi I'm Elaine, a life long cat lover available for jobs in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

For the last 15 years I've been the primary caregiver to my adorable rescues, Toetoe and Meeker. Toetoe is a confident, adventurous boy with a bit of a bullying streak, while Meeker is a shy girl who takes her time warming up to people. They've taught me that no two cats are alike and how to figure out each one's needs. There's nothing more beautiful and satisfying to me than figuring out how to befriend a new feline. I once spent two and a half years patiently wooing a friend's cat until I was their best friend. I have an endless supply of love for the cats of the world and look forward to sharing it with my clients.

As the parent to two elderly cats I have experience managing all sorts of behavioral and medical issues. This includes an extensive experience with a variety of medication methods such as oral pills (both hidden in food and given directly), oral liquids, eye/ear drops, topical skin creams and inhalers. I'm also experienced at managing cones and other neck collars. My cats mean the world to me and I've seen first hand how much of a difference a quality pet sitter can make. I'm committed to giving the same amount of love and attention to all my new feline friends.

I work a 9-5 job doing administrative work for a law firm in Midtown. For morning and afternoon visits during the week it will depend on location, time and my work schedule so please feel free to reach out. I'm happy to do overnight visits, but please be aware that I will most likely be out during the day.

Visits Include:
-- Feeding, watering and medication
-- Litter box and other cleanliness maintenance
-- Social time including play time, cuddling or whatever else your cat is into (I appreciate any and all info on favorite toys, hang out spots, etc.)
-- Pictures and updates at the end of every visit. Let me know if there's anything you're particularly worried or curious about so I can do my best to keep you well informed.
— Plant watering available upon request with specific instructions

Learn More About Elaine

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been cat sitting with Meowtel for three years. Before that I did freelance cat sitting for friends and family for most of my adult life.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Everyone who knows me knows that I’m an animal lover. I just love spending time with cats. From cuddles to play time I enjoy every moment of hanging out with my four legged friends.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

There’s one cat I watch who does everything can to keep me from leaving at the end of my visits. She’s tried stealing my keys, my phone, my bag and my coat in a bunch of different ways. I’m so touched she loves me so much that she wants to kidnap me. And the creativity is endlessly entertaining. I look forward to telling her parents about the latest round of mischief after every visit.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Make the most of your meet & greet time. Try to do it in person. Be clear with your expectations and be sure to mention anything you want me to keep an eye on. Writing up the instructions and either leaving them in the house or texting them to me is also helpful especially during busier periods.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes I’m usually around for holidays. I’d recommend new clients try to reach out as early as possible. I tend to book up about two to three weeks out from major holidays. I also appreciate flexibility on timing during Thanksgiving and Christmas. I can guarantee a general of day but not a highly specific time frame during such high traffic weeks.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I find the best solution to a shy or anxious cat is to let them come to me on their own time. I try to be quiet, still and small while they’re feeling me out.

I've lost count of how many times I've trusted Elaine to take care of my babies while I'm away. She's reliable, responds quickly, follows instructions, and seems to genuinely annoy spending time with my kitties. She's carefully administered various medications over the years including pill pockets, oral liquid meds via syringe, and even a kitty inhaler. She's just awesome. I'd recommend her to anybody.

Elaine has been taking care of my babies for a few years now, and I continue to book her regularly when I'll be out of town. My cats have had many different medical issues requiring various medications (pill pockets, oral liquids, inhalers, etc.) and she has always been reliable in giving each cat what they need. She also pays attention to details and lets me know when she notices a behavioral change or something else worth mentioning. In addition to just knowing my cats are in good hands, one of my favourite things about Elaine is how communicative she is. She responds promptly and sends regular updates with pictures, just briefly letting me know how my cats are doing that day. I worry less when she's in charge. I'm grateful for her and highly recommend her.

Elaine is fantastic. Both my kitties require multiple medications, pills, topical, and liquids twice a day. I’ve gone away and safely knew that both kitties received their meds on time and Elaine’s constant communication and kitty pictures made my day. she consistently communicated and I very much trust her with my special need kitties.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Brooklyn cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
