Cat Sitting in Brooklyn, NY

Hi
My name is Emiley ◡̈ I have three cats named Peppa, Chilli, and Hobbs. They all came from ACC NYC, a shelter I used to work at as a placement/rescue coordinator. Before I started working there I grew up with dogs of all sizes and I would have identified myself as a dog person. I had the typical experience of meeting “mean” cats in my childhood. But after working with so many cats and dogs and learning about cat/dog behavior, I remembered all those “mean cats” I had met and my heart melted for them. Because they were misunderstood and I wasn’t understanding what they were communicating with me...
Because they were misunderstood and I wasn’t understanding what they were communicating with me. I’ve worked with cats under immense stress so I have experienced behaviors throughout the whole spectrum and have learned how to understand and respond to what they are communicating or expressing in the moment.
I am 100% someone another cat parent can trust to watch over their baby/give them the best care they can have. I love my babies ridiculously and I always treat other animals the same I would my own. The first thing I would do as a cat sitter is to go slow, and let them approach me. If they want to play I’d use a wand toy or their favorite toy. If they are a little weary, I’d sit with them and enjoy their company ◡̈ Whatever they want, it’s the cats’ rules.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have three black cats. Peppa and Chilli. Both boys and brothers. They are almost four years old and are foster fails 🤣 My third is Hobbs, she’s a tiny female black cat, one year younger than the boys. She came into the shelter at 3 months old and got adopted but then returned for being destructive. She was kinda feral. I took a chance on her and decided to foster her. She hit it off immediately with the boys and they really helped her open up. I had to go very slowly to gain her trust and we’ve come a long way. She wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but here with us so I decided I couldn’t give her up and now I have three cats.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Always carefully open and close the door and lock it. Stick to all the rules and routine of the parent’s instructions. Never open the window or change anything for that matter unless needed and notifying the parent. I used to dog walk and dog sit so I have experience in managing the home and animal safety simultaneously.

What is your favorite cat toy?

The wand toy! This is such a great toy when meeting a cat for the first time because it keeps a safe distance for them but it’s something we can interact with together. It is also fun for the cat because they can practice their hunting instincts and be rewarded when they catch it. It also wears out energy. I usually play with my cats before feeding because it mimics hunting and eating in the wild. Also better for digestion and appetite.

Emiley is an amazing cat sitter. With her experience, knowledge and a clear love for cats she far exceeded my expectations and hopes. This was my first time hiring a sitter for my 9 year old rescue Scruffy, a highly skittish and extremely cautious cat. To my surprise and delight/relief Emiley was quickly able to establish a connection with Scruffy that grew day by by day. Emiley was so patient and kind with Scruffy, she definitely has a natural intuition when it comes to cats. On top of that she kept the epaprtment clean and made great suggestions/reccomendations for foods and toys she thought Scruffy might enjoy. I always hate leaving Scruffy alone for a long period of time. That can really interfere with trying to enjoy time away. Emiley made me feel like Scruffy was special to her, like she was being as well taken care of and loved almost as if i was there. I strongly reccomend Emiley and will definitely use her again.

Emiley was fantastic with my cat Mickey. He is a shy sensitive kitty who is often afraid of people. Emiley made him feel comfortable. I got lots of photos of air biscuit and floops. 💜 She is an excellent communicator always sharing updates. She noticed a medical issue with Mickey and was quick to notify me, proactively took care of vacuuming and cleaning his litter box. And took him to the vet for medication while I was away. Emiley did a thorough and thoughtful job and went above and beyond to make sure Mickey had great care while I was away. I would highly recommend her.

My cats are very shy and get really anxious when we travel. But they were instantly comfortable with Emiley and adored her as soon as the first visit. She was very attentive and gave them the cuddles they wanted (or space if they were feeling antisocial). She was also so diligent in keeping our apartment clean and neat by vacuuming the extra litter and fur she saw on the floor. I really appreciated how she kept me updated on how my cats were doing with her photos, videos, and write ups and I loved reading about how her relationship with each cat progressed throughout her time with them When we got home, I saw how happy and relaxed the kitties were and laughed when I noticed my boy cat waiting at the door for Emiley to come by (Emiley, Peekaboo misses you dearly) Traveling has always made me anxious because of my cats but I feel so much more comfortable traveling knowing we have someone who is caring, responsible, and who my cats LOVE. 10000/10 - highly highly highly recommend Emiley

Emiley will be our go to cat sitter in the future for sure! She was a natural with our huge family of 5 kitties, and even got our super anxious and shy one to come out. She very obviously took care to follow our instructions and was so sweet to bring toys to play with our cats during visits. Emiley's going to be our go to for any future needs and we'll feel really assured our babies are taken care of while we're away and we're very grateful!

Emiley was great with my cat Billy. She sent me updates with videos and pictures every time she came over to check on him and got him toys. She’s well informed when it comes to cats as she has 3 of her own. I trust her to take care of my cat as she would her own.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Brooklyn cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
