I'm Amik

Cat Sitting in New York, NY

Chosen by Bastet.

A millennia ago, I labored as a vet tech in an animal shelter where I was responsible for the daily care of hundreds of cat idols. There were kings and queens, wars, famine (allegedly), and at times, at least once a day, even the "end of the world" was foretold. During this period, an event known as "The Great Attack" took place.

Teleporting from a faraway realm, a vicious villain known as "The Squirrel" attacked the cat citadel by entering through an open window portal. After battling this seemingly immortal creature, I was victorious, but sustained injuries. The feline missionaries provided me with a rabies vaccination to treat my ailment.

Because of my protection and loyalty to the citadel, the great deity Bastet released me from my duties and bestowed upon me, two ageless creatures to protect me on my crusades across the world. In return I was asked only to free, protect, and care for others.

I accepted this great honor...

Today under the guise of a fintech/blockchain executive, I continue to perform my duties within the confines of lower Manhattan.

- medication administration (pill and liquid)
- identification of adverse-side effects

I can calm the wildest cat, make the most introverted get on stage, and overall, your cat's mental and physical well-being is my topmost priority.

I'm also a people person. You can go on work trips, vacations, even with the unexpected emergency: I've got your tail. You can have full confidence and be worry free that your kitty family will have the absolute best care while you are away. And maybe miss me after I'm gone :)

Learn More About Amik

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

When was I not a cat sitter... hmm let me think... I've been working with cats for over 20 years.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Making new small and regular sized friends. It's a small world after all! I also love taking photos and making fun videos of all the cat acrobatics or sleepy timez.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

When the kitties showed the belly... And I petted it... But the kitty was in fact playing a PRANK on me and instead it was actually PLAYYY TIMMME. Trophies of the game.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes! Two old and wise children named Holland and Marta! I raised them from when they could both fit in the palm of one hand to being over 20 years old now!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Find someone who you know has their own cats. Avoid those with extremely busy cat schedules, this can reduce the "quality time" the sitter spends with your own kitties. I keep my cat circle small for this reason and consider myself to be a boutique cat sitter. My visits go well beyond what is standard in terms of care and time spent with your kids, they remember me and might even miss me.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Happy to do a meet and greet but it is not necessary at all. I'm familiar with all foods, medications, procedures, etc., so there is nothing to worry about. I am in constant communication with you as needed. I am also telepathically linked to your cats (for real).

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I think like a cat and am observant of surroundings at all time. Anything that could create potential challenges I mitigate in advance. On various visits, I have made furniture more stable, cleaned or replaced damages toys, and I always check teeth and claws to make sure there were no injuries when I was away and the kitties partied hard.

Are you usually available during holidays?

YES, call me Santa Claws.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Wand with mouse. OMG. Cats can learn how to fly with that thing.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I make them not timid or anxious! My experience working with hundreds if not thousands of cats in shelters and in peoples homes has allowed me to handle even the most stressful scenarios. Even if it takes more time that the scheduled visit, I will improve your cats trust of me, the surroundings if you just moved, new food, a littler box, and medication without fail.

Amik is fantastic. He sent me daily photos and messages and was so attentive and patient with our cat who is very shy. By the end of the week, She was out from hiding and getting lots of petting and head scratches. I highly recommend Amik!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

New York cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
