What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been cat sitting for over 2 years through other platforms, and before that I was cat sitting with my sister, every other month. We used to do sits together, so I got a lot of hands-on experience early on with different types of pets and routines. I’ve mainly cat sat shy cats, and I’ve learned how to be really patient with them and let them warm up at their own pace. After a little time, they usually start to show their personalities and end up coming to me on their own, which is always the best feeling. I’ve also cared for cats that need medication or extra attention, so I’m comfortable with different needs and routines. Over time I’ve gotten really good at reading their behavior and adjusting to what each cat needs to feel safe and comfortable.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I honestly love getting to know each cat like they’re a new person. I’m already a really social person who loves deep conversations, so it’s funny but I feel like I get to do that in a different way with cats too. I also observe their toys and supplies, and buy my cats the same things so it’s always helpful! Every cat is so different, and they’re way more aware than people think. They can tell your tone, your energy, everything. I like figuring out what they like, how they communicate, and building that trust with them. I get attached to every single one of them that I end up wanting photos of them afterwards! It really feels like I’m meeting a new friend each time, and I also love being in a new space and environment, it’s a nice change of scenery while still doing something I genuinely love!

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I’m pretty mindful about safety and always double check things before I leave the house or go to sleep. I make sure doors and windows are secure, stovetops are off, and anything that could be unsafe for a cat is put away. I also keep an eye out for small things like strings, loose items, or anything they could get into. I’m careful about keeping certain doors closed if needed and making sure their space stays consistent (cats love routines) . I also follow the owner’s routine closely so nothing feels off for the cat. Overall I just try to think ahead and make sure everything feels safe, clean, and low stress for both the cat and owner.
