Cat Sitting in New York, NY

Hi! I’m Maya, a lifelong cat lover and experienced cat caregiver. I’ve shared my life with cats for as long as I can remember, including caring for a disabled cat and, currently, a senior cat. These experiences taught me patience, attentiveness, and how to recognize the unique needs of cats at every stage of life.

In addition to caring for my own cats, I’ve volunteered with the Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition (BBAWC), a nonprofit dedicated to ending cat homelessness and the organization behind the Brooklyn Cat Cafe. Through my work there and at the cafe, I’ve cared for cats with a wide range of personalities, backgrounds, and needs while helping visitors learn about cat behavior, welfare, and adoption...

Through my work there and at the cafe, I’ve cared for cats with a wide range of personalities, backgrounds, and needs while helping visitors learn about cat behavior, welfare, and adoption.

I have also fostered sick kittens and have experience caring for senior, disabled, shy, and special-needs cats. Over the years, I’ve developed a strong understanding of feline body language, behavior, enrichment, and stress reduction, which helps me build trust with cats and make them feel comfortable while their families are away.

During visits, I provide feeding, fresh water, litter box maintenance, playtime, enrichment, medication administration when needed, and plenty of affection at your cat’s comfort level. I pay close attention to changes in behavior, appetite, and overall wellbeing, and I always provide detailed updates and photos for peace of mind.

Whether your cat is an energetic kitten, a cautious rescue, a senior companion, or somewhere in between, my goal is to provide the same level of care, patience, and attention that I give my own cats.

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been caring for cats my entire life and have experience with cats of many different ages, personalities, and needs. Growing up, I cared for a disabled cat, and I currently have a senior cat, which has given me firsthand experience understanding the unique care and attention some cats require. In addition to caring for my own cats, I’ve volunteered with the Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition (BBAWC) and the Brooklyn Cat Cafe, where I’ve worked with rescue cats from a wide variety of backgrounds. I’ve also fostered sick kittens and have experience helping cats adjust to new environments and people. Through these experiences, I’ve developed a strong understanding of feline behavior, body language, enrichment, and stress reduction. My goal is always to make cats feel safe, comfortable, and cared for while their families are away.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I believe the best way to help an anxious cat is to let them set the pace. Many of the cats I’ve worked with through rescue and the Brooklyn Cat Cafe were initially shy, nervous, or overwhelmed, so I’ve learned the importance of patience and reading feline body language. Before a reservation, I like to ask owners about their cat’s personality, routines, favorite toys, treats, and what helps them feel comfortable. Some cats are food motivated, some are play motivated, and others simply prefer quiet companionship. I take those individual preferences into account and adjust my approach based on what works best for each cat. I never force interaction and instead focus on creating a calm, predictable environment where cats can feel safe. My goal is to build trust and make every visit a positive experience, whether that means interactive play, using treats to create positive associations, or simply being nearby.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes! I currently have a senior cat named Lexi, who requires a special diet due to a sensitive stomach, and I previously cared for my cat Pom Pom, who lived a long and happy life despite being blind and having a neurological condition. Caring for both cats taught me the importance of paying attention to individual needs, routines, and subtle changes in behavior or health. Pom Pom never let her disabilities stop her from enjoying life. She loved cuddles and food, and caring for her taught me patience, adaptability, and how to help a cat feel confident and comfortable. Lexi’s dietary needs have also given me experience with the importance of consistency and attention to detail when it comes to feeding and care. Cats have always been an important part of my life, and living with both special needs and senior cats has given me a deep appreciation for all cats.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

New York cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
