Learn More About Cindy

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have years of feline experience, including both cat sitting and cat trick training. I can interpret what cats are telling me through their posture, tail movements, and overall demeanor. Whether a cat is content and relaxed, in hunting mode, or getting annoyed - I can spot these signals early and adjust my approach accordingly. My background in cat training has taught me that every cat is capable of so much more than we often give them credit for. The key is finding the right approach and having patience. Through training, I've learned to read subtle cues about what motivates each individual cat and how they prefer to interact.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I enjoy getting to know each cat, and understanding their needs and preferences! Every cat is different - some are social butterflies who greet me at the door, others are shy observers who slowly warm up. I love learning their individual quirks and routines. They remind me to slow down and find joy in simple moments.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have an adult cat named Moki, and she's absolutely amazing. Moki was actually quite shy when I first got her, but I discovered her love language is interaction and mental stimulation. That's when I decided to try clicker training with her - and wow, did she take to it! She's learned an impressive repertoire of tricks: - Basic commands like sit, stand, down, hi-five, paw - Fun tricks like spin and "bang" (where she dramatically falls over) - A version of fetch and will give me the sweetest hugs on command - Jumping through a hoop! My personal experience with cats has made me a better cat sitter because I understand the things that cat want and need by observing their behavior, including their tails.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

My process always starts with a thorough meet and greet in order to build trust with both you and your cat! During our initial meeting, I focus on getting to know you and your cat's personality, routine, and specific needs. I gather all the important details, asking you the following questions, for example: - What's their daily routine like feeding times, favorite nap spots, and play preferences? - What are their favorite treats, toys, or comfort items? - What are things that scare them or stress them out? - Are there any areas of the house that are off-limits? - What does a successful cat sitting experience look like to you?

Are you usually available during holidays?

I generally stay local during the holidays which gives me the opportunity to do cat sitting and help others make sure that their cat is safe, fed, and happy.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I approach cats with extra patience and let them decide how to interact with me. I never force any interaction, extending my hand out to see if they would like to smell me first. I try to make myself small and non-threatening, often sitting on the floor, speaking softly, and maybe offering a treat or two if the owner lets me. Some of my favorite cat sitting experiences have been with timid cats who eventually sought me out for cuddles. The key is showing them that I respect their boundaries! Once cats realize that I won't force anything, they often become more curious!

Frequently Asked Questions

Pittsburgh cat sitting rates will vary based on the pet sitter's experience and expertise, but the average price for a cat sitter is $26.00. Prices will also depend on how long your cat needs company for, whether that be a drop-in visit or overnight stay in your home. Meowtel sitters offer 20, 45, and 60-minute drop-in visits that allow for fully tailored care for your kitties. Your caregiver may also need to charge a little more if they have to travel far, so we'll match you with the best options which are close by.

Every Meowtel cat sitter has been thoroughly vetted, background-checked, and is insured through Meowtel on eligible reservations via our Meowtel Promise. To ensure total peace of mind while you're away, every Meowtel reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can have full confidence in your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress for your kitties. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend that you book daily visits with your sitter to keep your cats in their routine and to help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each Meowtel cat sitting visit will include the whole 9 yards: feeding, refreshing the water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, as well as any special requests you may have. We know every kitty is different and that's why we offer tailored, in-home services since cats don't do well outside their own homes. Plus, every reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you can meet your sitter before you leave to ensure it will be a purrfect fit.
