Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I currently have two 5 year old cats. Bandaid, an active orange tabby who loves to run, play, and protect his “fortress”, and Ceviche, a sweet, longhaired, brown tabby who is a friend to all. I raised both of them since they were around 6 weeks old and am always amazed by how far they’ve come. They are both the lights of my life and I am so lucky to wake up next to them every morning!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Working with a new client, I will ask for either a virtual or in-person meet in greet. This visit will be to talk about schedules, any medications or tasks that need to be completed, areas the cat is and isn’t allowed, and to just get aquainted with the home and the pets I’m looking after. I will take notes either on my phone or in my journal to make sure I can stay consistent with the cat(s)’ care and to save any contact information. Afterwards, you can expect updates, pictures, and videos during the visit. I can meet you before and after the visit if that makes you more comfortable. Or, if you’re shy, I don’t mind arriving and leaving before you get back home. I’m very flexible and able to work with whatever you and your cat’s needs are!

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

The more cats I meet, the more I realize just how sneaky they can be. For that reason I have a thorough checklist I follow during a cat visit. I check small spaces, like behind furniture and recliners, before moving or sitting on them to ensure there are no injuries. I make sure there are no small choking hazards within reach, like rubber bands and bread ties (my cats love those). Most importantly, I double check any time I’m entering or exiting the house so that the cats stay safe inside. This includes making sure no screens are ajar and doors close properly. These are just some small things that I cover to help protect your cat.

Are you usually available during holidays?

The only holiday that I’m not available is during Christmas, as I’m usually out of town visiting family. However, I’m available the rest of the year!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I handle timid cats by encouraging them through my body language, like slow blinking and no sudden movements or loud noises. I go by their own pace, never forcing them to feel uncomfortable or more anxious. Rewarding anxious cats for their small accomplishments will also encourage them to come out of their shells. Shy cats are some of my favorite to work with. Being able to gain their trust, slowly but surely, is one of the most rewarding feelings
