While I’m new to professional cat sitting, I’ve cared for cats since childhood and have been a lifelong cat owner. What I love most is how different every cat is. Some are fiercely independent, some are shy and need time to warm up, others are affectionate right away — but they’re all incredibly curious and smart. Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I am a life long cat owner! I have 11-year-old Teddy, a Siamese who was abandoned in a parking garage at 8 weeks old — I’ve had him ever since! He’s lean and strong, a real little man, and he’s quirky and funny. I also have 9-year-old Ruby, my ginger girl, adopted 3 years ago from a hoarding environment. Despite her rough start, she’s the sweetest cuddler and trusts me completely now. She has health issues we’re managing, but she’s my purr machine, and I’m grateful to give her a stable life.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Look for someone who treats your cat’s routine as sacred — consistent feeding and litter habits, no surprises. Ask how they handle a cat who hides or won’t eat, since that shows whether they actually understand cat behavior versus just filling a bowl. A good sitter sends photo or video updates so you’re not left wondering, and has a plan for what happens if something goes wrong. This is how I approach every visit. What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I always recommend a meet-and-greet when booking. It gives us a chance to go over your cat’s routine, feeding schedule, and any quirks or triggers in person, and lets your cat get used to my presence in a low-pressure way before I’m caring for them solo. It also gives you peace of mind knowing exactly who’s in your home and how I’ll be looking after your cat. I find this simple step makes the whole experience smoother and less stressful for everyone — especially more anxious cats. Are you usually available during holidays?

I am available most major holidays, weekends, early morning and evening visits, as I know cat parents need vacations too!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I have experience caring for timid and anxious cats and know how important patience is with them. I move slowly, avoid direct eye contact, and let the cat come to me rather than approaching first. I keep their routine consistent — same feeding schedule, same access to their favorite hiding spots — and give them plenty of space to retreat if they need it. I pay close attention to body language throughout the visit and will always update you if I notice anything that seems off or stress-related.
