What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've cat sat for at least 10 years now for friends and family. Professionally for 1. I utilized Trusted House Sitters last year and it was such an amazing experience getting to meet so many new cats and places.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love being able to watch a cat come out of its shell and play, or feel safe and regulated even when their owner is away. It feels good to know a cat trusts me, I consider it a high honor in cat world.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

my favorite cat sit was in Austin, Texas with Marcello, Maizie, and Willie. They were the most loving, playful, cuddly and entertaining cats to sit and watch! seeing the dynamics between all three was like watching a language instead of hearing one. they brought me so much joy to get to know over the month that I was there. I loved that the owner had more than enough cat boxes, cat toys, and instructions to make me feel confident to keep everyone on their routine as well as bring a sense of stability while their mom was away. we spent our evenings together on the back porch, bedtime cuddled up and morning with music and playtime. I look forward to seeing them next time I travel to Texas.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I do not at the moment. We have a family cat named Lady Hyacinth Whistledown who I get to play with until I settle down and have more time to dedicate to a pet.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

When choosing a sitter I would look for someone who's goal is to have fun connecting with cats, while also getting paid to do it. Also someone observant and patient. Connecting with cats should come first and the payment is the bonus.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to ask questions about the cats routine, likes and dislikes, what they are afraid of and what they love. I also like to get a general idea of how social the cat is so that I don't stress it out if it likes to have its space. I then ask for house technicality instructions.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Checking for items on floor, doors that are meant to be closed staying closed, and general temperament of the kitty seeming healthy and regulated. Locking doors and leaving a light on if allowed.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I love cat wands long enough to really make the cat believe they are hunting a bird, mouse, snake or whatever silly attachment is on the end. I enjoy creating a real hunting experience for cats, there's something so funny about the fact that cats will often refuse requests or direction, but the second the magic wand appears cats start doing things they would never imagine doing without it! lol

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

since I find myself at times timid or anxious (depending on the kind of overstimulating enviroment I may find myself in) I have a deep understanding of how a cat can feel. I don't rush, I walk slow, I take my time and have gentle conversations without a lot of eye contact. I won't attempt any physical contact, sometimes for many days if needed. Nothing is better than when a cat realizes you are safe and will respect them, shoutout to Oatie who warmed up to me on day 2 :) even if they never really come out of their hiding spot while I am around, as long as they are eating, drinking water, and their litter is clean, that is a success to me.
