Learn More About Hannah

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

My pet sitting experience began 4 years ago when I started creating connections with clients at the veterinary hospital I worked at. I began helping them as friends but soon realized that it was very enjoyable, and decided to lean into it professionally. I have provided care for many situations, such as medication administration, emergency vet visits, and elderly pets.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

One of the biggest reasons I enjoy cat sitting is creating real relationships with the pets I’m sitting. I feel genuine connections when I see timid pets come out of their shell, or when cats decide to sit on my lap for the first time and feel safe while I’m around. I find it fun to learn their different personalities, where they like to be pet, which toys they prefer and all of their quirks!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes, I currently have 2 cats of my own! Murphy, a male grey tabby, was brought into the animal hospital I worked at for a check-up to prepare him for adoption. We immediately bonded and I adopted him from the rescue the next day! About a year later we adopted Marvin, a male orange tabby, and they love each other like brothers! Life definitely wouldn't be the same without our companions.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Please be honest and upfront about your expectations for the stay and what works best for your cat. If I have a good understanding of how you would like me to conduct the stay, I can better meet those needs! In addition, there is always a meet and greet first so that you can see if I would be a good fit for your situation.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

After we have spoken about dates and times needed, meet and greets are the next most important step so that you can meet me in person, show me where everything is located, explain the tasks that need to be completed, and discuss your cats’ preferences, behavior, and any medical needs. I also ask for emergency contacts and vet information in case of emergency. If the cats are friendly, meeting them first with the owner present sometimes helps the transition, however with shy and nervous cats I do not push or force any meetings, as that may increase stress. I try to be very communicative throughout the whole process!

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I personally have a cat that likes to run out the door when I come in, so I always take care when entering a home by blocking the entry with my legs to prevent escape artists from getting out. I always double check that doors are locked before I leave the visit. If you have a cat who chews on or eats plastic, trash or cords, please let me know and I can be extra vigilant about removing these objects before I leave. If the temperature in the home is uncomfortable, I will reach out to you to see if any changes need to be made.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, I am typically available during holidays. I usually do not travel during these times, but my calendar will reflect my schedule. Please reach out with any questions regarding specific dates.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

When I enter the home of a shy cat, I try to be quiet and not make any exaggerated movements or sounds. I typically talk softly to the cat(s) as well, even if I cant see them. I like to discuss with the owner first to see what their cat's preferences are - some owners prefer me not interacting with the cats at all to prevent any stress, but some would like me to sit in a nearby room to provide some quiet company. Throughout the visit I will respect the space of your cat and monitor his or her body language to see if it seems like we can develop a friendship, or if they'd rather just be left alone. Pushing those boundaries may ruin the chances of us developing a relationship so I try to be as respectful to their space as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lake Forest cat sitting rates will vary based on the pet sitter's experience and expertise, but the average price for a cat sitter is $34.00. Prices will also depend on how long your cat needs company for, whether that be a drop-in visit or overnight stay in your home. Meowtel sitters offer 20, 45, and 60-minute drop-in visits that allow for fully tailored care for your kitties. Your caregiver may also need to charge a little more if they have to travel far, so we'll match you with the best options which are close by.

Every Meowtel cat sitter has been thoroughly vetted, background-checked, and is insured through Meowtel on eligible reservations via our Meowtel Promise. To ensure total peace of mind while you're away, every Meowtel reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can have full confidence in your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress for your kitties. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend that you book daily visits with your sitter to keep your cats in their routine and to help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each Meowtel cat sitting visit will include the whole 9 yards: feeding, refreshing the water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, as well as any special requests you may have. We know every kitty is different and that's why we offer tailored, in-home services since cats don't do well outside their own homes. Plus, every reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you can meet your sitter before you leave to ensure it will be a purrfect fit.
