I'm Abigayle | Cat Sitting in Winthrop, MA

Hello there! My name is Abigayle :) I’m 21 years old and have lived with and cared for cats since I was born. Currently, I have three lovely cats named Charlie, Harry, and Beans. My family and I recently had to say goodbye to our fourth cat named Ernest due to complications with diabetes. This fall I will be entering my senior year as an undergraduate student at Emerson College! I’m majoring in creative nonfiction writing with a minor in sociology. Post college I hope to become a copy editor with a publishing company or newspaper.. or really any place that could use the help of a copy editor. When it comes to writing, I plan to work towards becoming a published nonfiction writer on the side. At least that’s the goal right now! I currently live in Winthrop, Massachusetts and will be commuting to Boston for college starting on September 4th. Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have three kitties! Harry, Beans, and Charlie :) They are all boys. Harry is a five year old black and white long haired cat. We are almost certain he’s part Maine Coon! When his coat gets super long we tend to have a groomer give him a lions cut. He’s a big cat, larger than a small dog 😂 Charlie is a 13 year old black long haired cat that is half Maine Coon. He was actually born in Maine! He’s a super mellow cat who’s polydactyl. He has 7 toes on each front paw! Last, but not least, we have Beans a 9 year old black domestic long hair. Beans is a delicate soul 😂 He has a high pitched squeaky meow and is affectionate.

What is your favorite cat toy?

My favorite cat toy would probably have to be the cat wand — especially the ones that can extend to be longer. I like twirling it around and watching my cats bat their paws at it. Sometimes I have mini jumping contests and see how high they can jump. Harry used to be able to do flips as a kitten hehe Beans also has a favorite cat toy of his own. He loves these odd looking rat tail toys with catnip in them. When we first bought them, I thought they were the ugliest things to exist, but I grew to love them.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

When it comes to cats that are timid or anxious, I of course want to respect their space. When meeting a new cat, especially if they are skiddish, I crouch down to be eye-level and offer them my hand. That way they can choose to come a little closer to me and sniff my hand to become familiar with my scent. And if they run away, that’s okay! Treats and toys are another tactic I use to build some trust with cats. Offering them a treat in my hand creates a positive experience between us (but I’ll only give them treats if you, the owner, are okay with that! I know some cats have certain diets hehe). And toys, especially cat wands, are good to engage with nervous cats while keeping some distance!

Cancellation Policy

Customers may cancel within 24 hours of making their reservation and receive a 100% refund and the sitter will not receive any earnings. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:

Customers will receive a 100% refund to their Account Balance if they cancel anytime up to 48 hours before the start date of the reservation and the sitter will not receive any earnings.

Customers will receive a 50% refund and the sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings if the customer cancels between 24-48 hours of the start of the reservation.

No refund will be issued within 24 hours of the reservation and the sitter will keep 100% of their planned earnings.
