What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

20+ years and I have had cats since I was 8 years old. I even hand-raised two orphaned neonatal babies since they were 4 weeks old. Fred and Ethel are now 10. I have hard rules like no outside time and no human food. I also take the trust that people put into me to not only take care of their furry family members, but their home as well. I’m very much a homebody and most of my time will be spent with the cat(s).

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

The cats of course! I have been in love with cats as early as I can remember. Ever since I started talking I begged my parents for a cat. I just love snuggling and spending time around cats. They heal the soul.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Look for someone who doesn’t see catsitting as just income. Look for someone who’s dedicated to cats (such as nose print and paw print tattoos of their 18 year old baby who was their world, for example….yes, that’s me). Look for a true cat person who knows the specific needs and behaviors of cats and does it for the love of cats. Someone experienced with their own kitties. Someone who asks a lot of questions and says things like, “there can never be too many notes and instructions!” I catsit because I truly love it.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I very closely watch doors and windows to make sure furry family members don’t get outside. If I have to leave the house, I check on them before heading out then check on them when I return to make sure they are ok (especially if they are unfamiliar with me). I also give them their space and let them come to me. I do prefer watching cats who are strictly indoors. Outdoor cats make me worry about their safety.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes! Unless I’m already booked for a petsitting job, I’m available 365 days of the year! I’m pretty laid back about my Petsitting jobs when it comes to bookings and cancellations. I’m just grateful for the privilege to take care of and love your furry family member(s).

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I closely read a cat’s behavior and adapt to their needs. Timid or anxious cats usually need their space and will come when they are ready. Everything with cats is on their terms and I respect them. I will let them see I’m no threat and let them see I’m there. I never force a cat to do anything.
