What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been cat sitting for going on a year and a half, but I have also worked as a house sitter and dog sitter for two years. I have experience giving cats both pill and liquid medications, as well as insulin shots.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love that cats have their own personalities and quirks, just like people, albeit a bit funnier. They’re just enjoyable to engage with and I love the companionship.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes. I have one cat named Rhett who will turn two years old in October of of 2025. He’s a flame point Siamese with orange cat personality.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

•I highly recommend booking at least a week out so that there are fewer scheduling conflicts and to ensure we able to have a proper meet and greet. I don’t want anyone to ever feel rushed or ignored. •It’s important to be up front with any speacial needs your cat may have such as, but not limited to, diets, medications, etc. and how they’re given. A lot of times cats may not take to someone new giving them medication, at least that has been my experience, so having a couple of different methods of giving any medicines can be helpful when possible. •It’s always great to consider time restraints and to be mindful of sitters other obligations as this can make it difficult to take care of your beloved pet(s) at very specific times. What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I thouroughly enjoy a meet and greets as it allows me to briefly interact with the cat so the cat parent can get an idea of how their cat might interact when around someone new. You never know if they’ll be more or less shy and it helps to ensure my services will be a great fit. Additionally, I will ask a bit about their routine as well as what their likes and dislikes are, all which helps me curate a great experience for the pet while I visit.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I use caution when opening and closing doors so as to not let a cat outside or to mistakenly lock them in the garage or what have you. I keep a close eye on the cat when I’m present to make sure he or she is very safe and out of harms way. I don’t leave out any food or medications that are not meant to be left out prior to leaving. I always send videos and photos of everyone’s cat to let them know they’re safe and happy. On the rare occasions I have to give insulin, I make sure I know where the sharps bin is for proper disposal so the cat does not get hurt on the needle after use. If there are any other suggestions or anything else to be mindful of I will make sure to go over it with the owner.

Are you usually available during holidays?

More often than not yes, and I typically keep my schedule open at least three months in advance to give everyone time to book with me before the holidays.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I get down on their level so to not intimidate them and I call them by their name, usually with a favorite treat or toy in hand, and let them come out on their own time when they’re comfortable. I often find by the second or third day most cats have come to feel comfortable with me around.
