What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
Kate has been cat-sitting since she was 16, giving me over 10 years of experience. Tim grew up with cats. We’ve cared for cats of all ages and personalities, ensuring they receive the best care and attention while their owners are away.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
What we enjoy most about cat sitting is getting to know each cat's unique personality and quirks. Building trust and forming a bond with them brings us immense joy, and we love ensuring they feel safe, loved, and happy while their owners are away.
Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?
One of my favorite cat-sitting reservations was with a shy tabby named Luna. Initially, she was very timid and would hide under the bed. I spent extra time each day, sitting quietly and offering treats, letting her come to me at her own pace. By the end of the week, Luna was curling up in my lap and purring contentedly. Seeing her transformation and knowing I helped her feel comfortable and safe was incredibly rewarding.
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
Yes, we have a kitty of my own! His name is Chuck, and he’s a 7-year-old fully orange boy full of cuddles and personality. Chuck brightens our days with his playful antics and affectionate nature.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
When looking to hire a cat sitter, we recommend the following: Meet and Greet: Arrange a meet and greet to ensure the sitter and your cat get along well. Experience and References: Check the sitter's experience and ask for references or reviews from previous clients. Communication: Make sure the sitter provides regular updates and photos while you're away. Emergency Plan: Ensure the sitter knows what to do in case of an emergency and has access to your vet’s contact information. Compatibility: Choose a sitter who understands and respects your cat's unique personality and needs. Finding the right sitter can make a world of difference for your peace of mind and your cat’s happiness!
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
Either Kate or Kate and Tim will come over for a meet-and-greet, and we will discuss your cat's needs and anything else we need to know about your home. We will also check on emergency contacts and try the key on your door to make sure it works well! We want to make sure you feel comfortable and safe. We can't wait to love your kitties!
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
To ensure the safety and security of the cats and the home while cat-sitting, we follow these practices: Home Security: we lock all doors and windows after each visit and am cautious about not letting any pets escape. Clear Instructions: We follow your specific instructions for your cat's care and any safety protocols you have in place. Emergency Contacts: We keep a list of emergency contacts, including your vet and any backup contacts, readily available. Regular Updates: We provide regular updates and photos, so you’re always informed about your cat’s well-being and any potential issues. Respect Boundaries: We respect your home and belongings, ensuring that everything is left as you found it. These steps help create a safe and secure environment for both your cats and your home.
Are you usually available during holidays?
Yes, we are usually available during the holidays. While Kate is generally not free for Christmas, Tim will be! Since Kate work remotely and Tim has a flexible schedule, feel free to reach out to discuss your specific needs and schedule!
What is your favorite cat toy?
My favorite cat toy is Chuck’s mermouse with feathers! He absolutely loves it, and it’s always a joy to watch him pounce and play. The feathers make it extra exciting and engaging for him, keeping him active and entertained.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
For cats that are particularly timid or anxious, we take a gentle and patient approach: Slow Introduction: We start by giving them space and allowing them to come to me on their own terms, avoiding sudden movements or loud noises. Calm Environment: We maintain a calm and quiet environment to help them feel secure and reduce stress. Comfort Items: We use familiar items from their home, like blankets or toys, to provide comfort and a sense of security. Positive Reinforcement: We use treats and soft, reassuring voices to build trust and encourage positive interactions. Respect Boundaries: We respect their boundaries and never force interactions, allowing them to adjust at their own pace.

I moved back to New York City from Florida. I had the most amazing Cat Sitter there. I was worrying about finding a similar here. I’m happy to say that Kate and Tim were not only as good but better! I have four kitties. They went above and beyond caring for them for my week and a half trip. And were also flexible when I had to change arrangements. The communication was wonderful. lots of pictures were sent! and my kitties warmed up to them very quickly, most importantly! I look forward to using them again.

Kate and Tim did a fantastic job of watching our cat Bagel. Notably, they pointed out that a flower arrangement in our home contained lillies (which we didn't realize), which are toxic to cats. Kate and Tim removed the flowers so it was out of reach of our cat. We're very grateful!

Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.
These are the date ranges in 2026 to which the holiday surcharge applies:

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.
If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.
Astoria cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Kate & Tim were absolutely fantastic. I was a bit nervous leaving my cats as this was the first time I had to hire a cat sitter. Kate was such a great cat sitter! She stayed overnight, took care of Stella & Luna, tending to each of their separate needs, with care and attention. She was able to get their trust, feeding them attentively to their taste and adapting to each of their preferences. She played with them, brushed them, cuddled them and sent us photos, to keep us posted!
