What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been caring for cats on and off since 2015 and I joined Meowtel in 2025. Since then I've managed multiple concurrent reservations -- morning, afternoon and evening visits -- so I'm comfortable balancing busy schedules and making sure that every cat gets the attention they deserve. I've cared for cats with all kinds of personalities and needs and I even help with small extras like plant care when requested. Because I don't work a traditional 9 to 5 office job, I am available for check-ins throughout the day and week making scheduling flexible for you. My approach is to meet cats where they are: I always ask about their favorite toys, routines and how they typically interact with new people because I know their behavior with with me might be different than with you. This helps me build trust and keep your cats feeling safe, comfortable, and understood.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I think my number one piece of advice would be to know your cat. Think about your cat's personality. Are they social? What phase of life are they in? Are they anxious? Are they on a strict routine? How often do they enjoy playtime? And how does all of that translate to what they need? And then Find a sitter who knows how to respect your cat's boundaries. It's important to ask about a sitter's experience with special needs or particularly shy cats. What is their comfort with the unexpected? For example, are they comfortable giving medications or helping with mobility issues, displaying patience and calm energy, even if a situation feels scary? Finally determine how often frequently you want updates even if not much has changed. Just something to make your heart happy.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Before a reservation, I schedule a meet & greet to get to know your cat(s) and home routine. We’ll review daily needs like feeding, water, and litter, as well as medication schedules or special instructions. I’ll ask about expected visitors, deliveries, and how you’d like messes handled. I also check on entry/exit details, key return, and visit timing. To understand your cat better, I ask about their experience with sitters, how they interact with new people, and their favorite toys, hiding spots, lounging spots, and treats. I take detailed notes in the Meowtel app so nothing is missed. During visits, you can expect fresh food and water, litter cleaned, medication as needed, and updates with photos. Depending on their personality, I’ll provide playtime or quiet companionship. My goal is simple: to keep your cats happy, comfortable, and cared for while giving you peace of mind.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I take both cat safety and home security very seriously. During each visit, I make sure cats are accounted for, fed on schedule, have fresh water, and that litter areas are clean. I double-check doors, windows, and gates to ensure everything is secure before I leave. I carefully follow any instructions shared during the meet & greet — from how you’d like me to handle medications to which rooms are off-limits. I also confirm entry and key-return preferences in advance so there’s no confusion. In addition to caring for your cat, I can bring in mail or packages, adjust lights, or water plants so your home maintains its usual routine. You’ll also receive detailed updates with notes and photos after every visit through the Meowtel app, so you always know your cat — and your home — are safe and cared for.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes — I am usually available for holiday cat sitting throughout the year, including major holidays. While my schedule can shift occasionally, I do my best to keep my calendar up to date. With a little advance notice, I can almost always make myself available to ensure your cats receive reliable care during busy travel seasons.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

When I care for shy or anxious cats, I focus on building trust at their pace. I never force interaction — instead, I move slowly, keep my voice calm, and spend time at their level. I avoid direct eye contact or walking straight toward them, which can feel intimidating. I maintain a low-stress, familiar routine by sticking closely to their feeding, litter, and play schedules. I also ask pet parents about their cat’s favorite hiding spots, toys, and comfort cues, so I can respect their boundaries while still being present. Sometimes success means a quiet session in the same room; other times it’s a gentle play break or accepting a treat. My goal is to create a safe, patient environment so even the most timid cats can feel comfortable and cared for during my visits.
