What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been cat sitting on on Meowtel for almost two years, and I have had my own kitties for over ten years.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I enjoy most about cat sitting the unique opportunity to connect with each cat's individual personality. Whether it's earning the trust of a shy cat, engaging in playful antics with an energetic one, or simply providing comfort to a senior feline, I find it incredibly rewarding to meet their needs and make them feel safe and happy in their home. I love observing their quirky behaviors, from their curious explorations to their contented purrs, and knowing that I’m contributing to their well-being. Being a reliable, caring presence for both the cat and their owner is deeply fulfilling.
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I have two amazing kitties called Lucky and Tulie, who have been with me for ten years. They have both been adopted by our local Humane Society, and they are truly dog personalities in cat bodies - they follow me around my home whenever I am there, and usually expect me at my door when I come home from work. They are family members in every sense of the word, and I would treat any cat who I sit for just like I want my two to be treated in my absence.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
I would advise customers to never book a sitter without a meet and greet in order to ensure that the sitter, the owner and the kitties are a good match. Ask questions about the sitters experience; ask if the sitter is carrying their own insurance, and if they are bonded. It’s helpful to provide all the important information during the meet and greet and also written out or typed into the app.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
What I Need to Know About Your Cat To give your kitty the best care possible, please share the following details with me: Daily Routine Feeding schedule, portion sizes, and type of food (wet, dry, or a mix). Treat preferences and any limits. Usual playtime routines or favorite toys. Typical nap spots and times. Health Information Any medical conditions or allergies. Medications your cat is taking, including dosage and timing. Veterinary contact information (name, number, and address). Signs to watch for if your cat feels unwell. Personality & Preferences Is your cat shy, outgoing, or somewhere in between? Do they enjoy being held or prefer space? Favorite games, toys, or activities. Places they like (or dislike) being petted. Are they vocal about their needs? Behavior & Habits Any quirks, like scratching furniture or knocking over water bowls. What is your favorite cat toy?
For my kitty clients the cat dancer seems to be a big hit, as well as feather wand toys and the wand toys with the neon worms on them. I also have a few kitty clients who love laser pointers.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I usually let the kitties decide the speed of their interaction with me; I meet them where they are at in their comfort level and let them approach me when they are ready (as most of them actually do after some time). For very shy and anxious kitties I might just sit in the same room with them, occasionally talk to them and otherwise pretend to ignore them, so that they can get used to my presence in their space. Occasionally I might throw a treat in their direction, and most of the time they get curious eventually and want to sniff me at least.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

San Jose cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $39.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

Anke was an incredible cat sitter—thoughtful, communicative, reliable, and very kind to our weird cat. Our cat takes a while to warm up to new people, and Anke put in the time and effort to become her new best friend. I was traveling internationally and accidentally gave Anke the wrong code to get into our house on Day 1. She called and messaged, but I was fast asleep on the other side of the world. Rather than leave, Anke stayed and played with our cat through the window so she still got some attention. Once I got back to her with the correct code, she went first thing in the morning to ensure our cat was happy and fed. I’ll definitely be using Anke’s services again. 10/10. A+. 100%.

I was away for two weeks and I chose Anke to take care of my two nine-year-old cats, Sawyer and Kate . Anke came every morning and followed my instructions reliably. She scooped the litter box, swept the litter off the floor, changed their water, and played with Sawyer. Kate was shy and stayed in the closet or under the bed most days, but finally came out toward the end of the two weeks. Anke did a terrific job caring for my cats. I highly recommend her, and plan to use her the next time I'm out of town.

Anke was an amazing caretaker for our needy senior kitty Pumpkin! Her updates and care put us at complete ease while being on a long trip. Anke was simply wonderful! She took excellent care of our two kittens, sending photos and videos, updating us on how they’re doing and staying in communication everyday. Anke is wonderful looking after my shy feral cat and her friends. I appreciate the photo updates so I know she’s doing ok while I’m traveling. Anke was AMAZING! Above and beyond with watching our adult cat, Grizzly. He immediately fell in love with her and was so happy every time she visited. Anke sent daily messages with updates, multiple photos, and videos. She even did more cleaning than expected because our guy gets litter everywhere! Seriously- Anke was incredible and I’m SO happy to have found her! Thank you thank you thank you!

Anke accepted my reservation last minute and did a great job caring for my baby. She responds quickly to messages and sends plenty of photos to assure you everything is going well. She's thoughtful and careful with shy cats. She even left a note with some treats for me and my cat after the reservation ❤️

Anke was awesome! She bonded so quickly with my two cats and took great care of them. Even my shy cat liked her as well. Anke really cared about the wellbeing of my cats and made sure they both got food, water, clean litter box and playtime. She kept my place really clean as well which I really appreciate. I would definitely recommend her and would come back in the future when I need help caring for the kitties again.

This was our second time using Anke on a much longer (2 week trip) this time, she did a wonderful job again looking after our kittens, played with them and gave them lots of love. It really gave us huge peace of mind knowing they were looked after.

Anke is absolutely incredible and we would not trust anyone else with our cat Dove. Dove is completely OBSESSED with her, which says everything you need to know.
