Cat Sitting in Westminster, CO

I have had a total of 5 cats in my care for well over a decade of my life and nothing brings me more joy than the feeling of knowing their needs, no matter how fickle, are met. Understanding an animal’s needs goes beyond their ability to simply communicate them to us. Instead, it requires a deeper understanding of their behavioral cues and mannerisms to determine when an animal is doing well or when it is lacking in care. To that end cats, as wonderful as they are, are subtle and elusive creatures. I take a large amount of pride in my ability to go the extra mile to make sure that their individual needs are observed and acted upon.

In my personal and professional life, I have committed my energies towards the preservation of all living things. My background in the natural sciences has led me down the path of environmental law because my deepest desire is to make sure those who cannot preserve their interests are heard and recognized. I carry that same position with animals. I recognize that an individual is not always in a position to give themselves what they need. When those moments come, I take pleasure in knowing I can lend to hand to overcome that gap. Your animals meet all those criteria for me and if given the opportunity I intend to look after them in the effort of making sure they are as comfortable as can be for many years to come.
I have experience in handling medical administration to large and small animals as well as with animals with medically diagnosed anxieties. I also prioritize cleanliness and keeping a comfortable living space for my pets at all times. When working with your animal, there is no length I will not go to guarantee their comfort, health, and liveliness in your home.

I have large availability evenings on all weekdays and weekends. I am flexible to afternoon blocks during the middle of the day as well.

Learn More About Jared

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I prefer to immediately establish a clear and abundant channel of communication. There is never a situation where a cat parent can communicate too much with me. I recognize how much they care and want to match that care and then some. Once we feel comfortable with our established communication, I then process all given instructions and will typically attempt to reiterate my understanding to them to make sure there is no misunderstanding. Following that, key points of follow-up include: how they prefer their updates, what behavioral cues should I look out for, and how often would they like phot

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Taking a thorough approach to security is essential, especially during the first few days when all parties are getting used to the arrangement. Taking precautions to check all possible entrances and exits for both outsiders and the cats themselves, helps limit all possibilities of potential accidents. I treat a client's home like my own and their pets the same way. I want them to rest assured their safety and comfort is my utmost priority.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes! I am happy to work nearly every holiday except for Christmas. Even then, I am often only busy for a day or two of that season.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I am partial to any cat toys that provide noise the more they interact. for the longest time, the toy my cats loved the most was a small stick with a stringed mouse on the end that squeaked when poked and prodded. Recently, these same cats have thoroughly enjoyed a small tunnel placed for them between the couch and end table where they tend to take turns surprising one another from the opening.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Time and positioning are key. Like most animals, an even and tempered approach allows for the highest chance of success for their comfort. Often it is more of a game of patience. When this is less of an option, as in the case of administering medication, I often place myself in an open and available portion of the room on the floor. This typically allows them the avenue to approach me openly and after this occurs off and on for a short period, I often find my presence is less disruptive to them.

Jared made sure our cats were fed and watered, changed our litter, even took out the litter trash at the end of his time with our boys, and he documented everything. He gave them attention and was very patient with the one that hid under the bed until the scaredy cat came out of hiding. Jared even took extra check-in times last minute when our friend who was supposed to help had a family emergency. We were able to rest easy knowing Jared had everything under control.

Jared was excellent! Our kitty can be very tentative and Jared clearly showed a lot of kindness and patience with her. It was a great relief to have him with her while we were out of town and we’re so thankful!

Jared was truly amazing in his professional yet warm and caring approach to taking care of our two cats. One of them is really fragile physically and emotionally, and I can only say that during our 10 day trip he kept him alive and I’m so grateful for his truly outstanding cat sitting. Jared went above and beyond in his help and response to request, including watering plants, adjusting the camera, and following caring instructions on the fly. His photos were just amazing and reassuring. We thank him so much for making our vacation possible in the first place and making us feel safe about our beloved pets.

My cat is shy and is an extremely messy eater due to a mouth disfigurement. Jared was patient and allowed her to approach at her own speed. By the end, she was obviously comfortable and enjoyed the interactions. He also cleaned her feeding area each day and provided timely updates. Highly recommended.

I would 100% recommend Jared as a pet sitter. He was super sweet with my cat, Luna. He took the time to play with her even when she was a bit shy. He followed all my instructions about Luna's diet and sent me detailed updates and tons of pictures. He always replied quickly, too.

Jared was extremely competent and dependable. He looked after my two nervous cats and we came home to relaxed cats (which is not normal). I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
