Alaina's Cuddly Cat Care

I'm Alaina

Cat Sitting in Saint Paul, MN

There’s a lot.
Personal Experience:
Throughout all twenty-five years of my life, there was never really a time that I was without one or more cats living with me.
Growing up, my family has loved a total of 10 cats and they currently have 1 senior cat (the white kitty I cuddle with in my photos, Morpheus), 2 young adult cats (Alice & Felix) and 2 dogs (Teddy & Zora) that I often come over to take care of.
I was always the one to volunteer my room to help introduce any new pets to the existing ones.
I currently live in an apartment with my boyfriend and our cat Lucy. She has a mild case of feline asthma and I have to give her an oral medication every 2-3 days. We are working slowly on eventually using a kitty inhaler, but I do have experience using one on other kitties.

Education & hands-on experience:
All animals have a special place in my heart and I am very intrigued by their behavior and what makes them unique; so I pursued a Bachelor's of Science in animal health and behavior ('23)...

Education & hands-on experience:
All animals have a special place in my heart and I am very intrigued by their behavior and what makes them unique; so I pursued a Bachelor's of Science in animal health and behavior ('23).
During the spring/summer of 2024, I interned at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of MN in their mammal nursery for 4 months with a total of 435 hours. There, I learned how to handle various small mammals for feedings, medications, giving them subcutaneous fluids, and more. I then shadowed in their veterinary treatment room once a week for a little over a year. Here, I worked further with mammals, and had the opportunity to help a wide variety of other species. From gorgeous cardinals to massive snapping turtles, I have worked with much of Minnesota wildlife.
For administering subcutaneous fluids, I have the appropriate training and experience with mammals ranging from 5 grams (baby mice) to 4.5 kilograms (approx. 10 lbs Virginia opossum). So while I have not directly given them to cats, I am comfortable and confident in my ability to administer them to your pet if needed.

Cat-specific/Career:
Felines are my absolute passion (even though I love all animals) and have been for as long as I can remember.
My dream job is to work at a sanctuary where I would care for cats of all sizes. Whether that be domestic and feral cats at a shelter or tigers and servals at a zoo.
However, I have been lucky enough to find my other calling at Sustainable Safari: an exotic, family-owned zoo experience located in Maplewood Mall (and Burnsville Center). I am currently employed as an Education Curator and Safari Guide where I teach people about animals in various ways.
I’m pretty flexible with scheduling and will work around both my work schedule and whatever works best for you!

When you hire me to take care of your fur babies, you are guaranteed a safe and enlightening experience. I am highly experienced and knowledgeable with caring for cats and understanding their individual needs. I truly do love all animals and will treat your cat with full respect and admiration.

Learn More About Alaina

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I joined Meowtel in August of 2024. My first experience with sitting was for family and friends for 4 years before I joined Meowtel. I still love helping my family and continue to sit for them when needed. I’m an expert on taking care of various cats (and animals in general) due to having them my entire life.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love everyone’s pet almost as much as my own. I am always eager to meet new furry friends! I’m one of those ppl that will walk up to someone with a dog and ask to pet it. If I see a stray cat or neighborhood outdoor cats I immediately offer my friendship.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

It’s hard to pick one. I’ve had many clients and reservations that seemed to go very well for everyone involved (client, their kitties, and myself). I don’t think I’ve ever received a negative review or ever had a client I wouldn’t sit for again. For that, I’m very greatful.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

My current cat is a spoiled only child. She is 5 years old. Her name is Lucy and she lives with my boyfriend and me in our apartment. My parents’ cats (the ones I grew up with and often care for) were initially all up in age, but only one remains. His name is Morpheus (19), and they rescued kittens earlier in 2025 and named the siblings Alice & Felix, who are now over a year old.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Ask questions and tell us any details you think we should know (big or small, we want to understand and give your kitty the best care possible). Be open to your sitter’s schedule as best you can, a lot of them do not only do cat sitting as their job. Also be sure you give them the right instructions and key/code for entry to your home as well as an emergency number for immediate contact.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I would love to meet you and give you any tips that I feel would help you in your situation. I also absolutely love answering any questions you have about cats (or any animals that I know about). I will work with you regarding your preferences and make suggestions on what has worked for me over the years of welcoming new pets to my home.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I have learned to always approach the cat on their terms. Offering a hand to them cautiously will determine whether they will accept you or not. Give them time. I will follow any specific instructions given by the client on how to keep their home secure (eg. locks or security codes); and any other information about their cat or areas of the home that I need to be aware of. Communicating is key. I love to give updates to the client while sitting. I always send pictures and a description of how it went that day for every visit.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Not typically for the full day. It depends on the holiday. Early mornings are usually open for me any day of the year.

What is your favorite cat toy?

My cat loves tiny springs, but loses them within minutes. A close second is when she finds the right little mousey. I love to watch her destroy them like the little hunter she is.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

There are various methods on handling cats depending on the situation that I’ve learned through college & experience. Reading and understanding the cat’s body language is the first step. You can’t successfully approach a cat without understanding the signs it is showing you. Patience is key, and keeping a calm voice and body language (keeping low to the floor or at the cat’s level) will help the cat feel less threatened. Never force the cat into doing something it doesn’t want to do. If it’s required medication or similar, covering it with a towel and using it as a compression tool helps calm the cat.

I’m a nervous cat mom, hesitant to leave my fur babies in the care of anyone but my own mom and my closest friends; any anxiety I had about entrusting Alaina with the care of my three kitties was fully relieved after our meet-and-greet prior to travel. Her professional communication, thorough preparation and respectful, compassionate and warm interactions with the cats made it immediately apparent that they were in great hands! One of my cats is much more friendly & cuddly than the others, but all three of them were quickly taken with her. Her honoring of their boundaries and need for periodic breaks & distance further built on the early-established trust. I felt totally comfortable leaving them in her capable hands, and was delighted to receive the written updates as well as snapshots of each kitty- I’m looking forward again to traveling & long-weekend adventures, knowing I have a trusted caregiver ready and eager to help me make sure my beloved little creatures have every need met in my temporary absence! I cannot recommend her highly enough; thank you, Alaina!

This month

This was my second time working with Alaina for cat care while I was away and she amazed me again! I went on a camping trip into the wilderness and there are very few people I’d trust to care for my fur babies while I’m off the grid even for a short time; Alaina is among that elite few! Alaina does a great job of keeping me updated about the mischief the cats get up to and sending photo updates; she had me laughing out loud when I got back into cell service range and saw the expressions she managed to capture in photos (two of my cats are orange, so you KNOW they gave her plenty of opportunities 🤦🏻‍♀️). Alaina’s dedicated care is a great comfort and I HIGHLY recommend her as a professional caregiver myself (albeit to humans!) and anxious Cat Mom. I look forward to working with her again!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Saint Paul cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
