Learn More About Jennie

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've been professionally cat sitting for over 2 years, with experience both in the Bay Area and more recently in Irvine. Throughout this time, I've had the privilege of caring for over 500 cats, each with their own unique personalities and needs. My journey started out of a genuine love for cats and a desire to ensure they receive the best possible care while clients are away. My experience covers a broad range of cat care needs, from playful kittens that require lots of energy and engagement, to cats who prefer a quieter, more comforting presence and approach.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I believe that cat sitting is much more than just a job, it's about building trust and a bond with each cat, understanding their individual preferences and quirks, and going above and beyond to make sure they feel loved and secure. My approach is always tailored to the specific needs of each cat, ensuring they receive the best care and attention during our time together. Gaining a trust from a cat is very rewarding to me!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When working with a new cat parent, my approach is centered around understanding, communication, and personalized care. Here’s a typical process I follow to ensure a seamless and comfortable experience for both the cat and their parent: 1. Setting up a meet and greet. 2. Asking questions about their cat and going over tasks. 3. Providing regular updates.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I take a gentle, patient approach to help anxious or timid cats feel safe. Instead of forcing interaction, I let them observe me at their own pace so they can build trust naturally. • I move calmly and avoid direct eye contact at first, as some cats find it intimidating. • I create a relaxed presence by sitting quietly, engaging in soft activities (reading, using my phone), so they realize I’m not a threat. • I allow the cat to approach me first, using slow movements and non-threatening gestures. • I use positive reinforcement, such as soft praise or treats if the cat shows curiosity. • I respect boundaries and avoid overstimulation, especially if the cat displays stress signals like tail flicking, flattened ears, or dilated pupils. • I adjust my approach based on the cat’s comfort level, whether that means engaging them with slow blinking, toys, or simply coexisting in the same space.

I booked Jennie for two visits to care for my cat while I was away. She arrived as scheduled, provided a detailed summary of each visit and took photos. However, I was disappointed with the level of engagement she had with my cat. Jennie seemed nervous around her and largely avoided interacting with her. I have pet cameras and noticed she spent most of the visit on her phone, and made little effort to play .My cat can be shy at first but from what I saw she actually warmed up to her and at one point she even rolled over and showed her belly, which is a clear sign of trust and submission. Jennie ignored her and kept her distance, even putting a pillow between them when my cat tried to interact. If you’re looking for someone to simply feed your pet and provide a report, she might be fine, but if you want someone who genuinely engages with your pet, I wouldn’t recommend.

Response from Jennie

Hi Mariah, I’m sorry my approach didn’t meet your expectations. I tried playing with Gigi, but she was cautious/anxious, showing hissing/biting/swatting. With only 2 visits in 1 day, she needed more time to trust me. I limited interactions for her comfort.

Jennie was amazing. Very clear in communication and was so thorough and detailed in her daily report of our fur balls! Our shy cats even came out to sniff and greet her on her visit. Would definitely want her car care again next time we travel. Thank you Jennie.

this is our second time having Jennie cat sit for us and we couldn’t be happier! Our cats love her and she ALWAYS gives us the most detailed, thoughtful updates throughout our trips. We have 9 cats- so it can be a handful. We were hesitant to leave them alone but Jennie came in confidently and never seemed to be overwhelmed. If she can take care of our crazy cat colony, she can take care of anything! Haha. We will continue to work with Jennie for ALL our kitty needs.

Jennie is awesome !!! I was a little nervous to get a new sitter but jeeeez Jennie hit a home run. She sent so many pics and detailed reports from each visit. During a long, stressful work trip, those updates kept me going. Coming home, my house was in great shape! Kitties were happy even tho I was gone for 2 weeks!! She even got my little shy baby to come out and crawl all over here lol (how??) convinced Jennie is a cat whisperer. I’d have no reservations about hiring her again. Tysm Jennie!

Absolutely amazing!!! Jennie is our favorite cat sitter. She has an incredible attention to detail and genuinely cares for our cat. During her last visit, she noticed immediately when our cat wasn’t acting his usual self and quickly took him to the vet. It turns out he had a UTI, which could have been life-threatening if left untreated. Thanks to Jennie’s quick and attentive care, our cat’s life was saved and he’s now on the road to recovery. Jennie is always quick to respond and keeps us updated with thorough updates and adorable pictures. We can’t thank her enough for her dedication and love for our boy. Highly recommend Jennie for anyone in need of a trustworthy and compassionate cat sitter!

Jennie is amazing. Our cat displayed symptoms that needed medical attention, she informed us and took him to the vet, where he was admitted for treatment. We are so grateful to her. 10 stars

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Irvine cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $33.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
