Cat Sitting in Washington, DC

When I first rescued my cat, Orion (a little orange tabby) I never knew I could love a fur baby as much as I do! His purrs & wake-up head bumps make my days brighter from the start. He also walks all over me when I’m sleeping but he’s cute so it’s okay😄 Then I recently adopted Queso, who is 14 pounds of orange cuteness! I got her from the Humane Alliance and have been obsessed with her ever since. She’s a Velcro baby & my little shadow wherever I go. Having them encouraged me to start caring for cats also, & it’s been so fun & fulfilling. I love that I can offer them a safe & peaceful living space while sitting for them... Most of my cat clients even lay in my lap or on my chest when I’m laying down, & it doesn’t get much better than that. I also have experience with all different kinds of medication (i.e injections, oral, etc.) & possess the awesome skill of meeting each cats’ individual needs so they feel the same joy as when their parents are there. I’m great with elderly cats as well. I’ve done both long-term sittings & drop-ins & I’m super efficient when stopping by to care for kitties. It allows me to maximize their playtime & give them lots of pets (if that’s something they like) before I leave. Overall, loving my own cats has allowed me to adore my fuzzy clients just the same; they’re so much fun for me to watch! Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to hang out with your special four-legged kiddos! The happiness it brings is mutual.

Learn More About Alexandra

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been cat sitting for 6 years now! I’ve sat for all ages from kittens to senior cats. I also know how to administer both oral and injection medication. I have two orange kitties myself: Orion (male) & Queso (female)!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

It sounds silly, but the first thing I do when meeting a new cat and their parent at a meet & greet is sit down on the floor after I’ve greeted the parent and determined their cat’s temperament. I’ve found that it creates a sense of safety for the cat, as I’m new in their environment which is a big change all of a sudden! During this time I chat with the pet parent about all the things & needs related to their cat. I also use treats to try and get the kitties to come out if they’re hiding and say hello. I ensure to be very gentle, calm, and move slowly and evenly so as not to scare them. 9/10 times they’re eating treats out of the palm of my hand before I leave! I also always bring a notebook with me to write down all instructions.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Safety and security is my NUMBER ONE priority. Respect for the cat and the home it resides in is paramount to me. A pet parent is trusting me with the life of their baby and the sanctity of their abode and I do not take that lightly. I always make sure to ask the pet parent if their kitty is an escape artist or will rush the door when I open it so I can be extra cautious. I always do the dishes while I’m there, and do my best to coax the fur baby out so I can get eyes on them and see that they’re fine. I always double check the house to make sure everything that could be harmful to the cat is put away, as well as double checking the lock on the front door before I leave.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Washington cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $28.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
