What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been cat sitting with Meowtel for over a year now. I've had great experiences and I love having this as a side job!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Getting to know the unique personalities of my clients' cats. I love when I get to play with or pet them. (Although it's totally fine if they are shy.)

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

I've got two regular clients that have been sweet and playful from the start but like most cats, needed a little time to fully warm up to a new person. I remember when the visits when they finally came to sit next to me on the couch.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I've got a 9 year old black cat named Jiji and a 5 year old tuxedo named Teddy.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Go with your gut on who you feel comfortable with and don't worry about being too detailed in your instructions. Any true cat lover will understand and be grateful to know what's needed when they visit.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to chat first to make sure I can meet their needs and then go for a meet and greet.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I always enter the front door carefully & stay inside for the whole visit, locking the door behind me. I will only enter the rooms you show me in the meet and greet and will double check if you want me to search the home if I can't find the cat.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes! My family I see on holidays are about an hour away. I usually do my holiday visits early in the morning, though could also do late at night.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I'm not sure if this counts as a toy but my cats have a donut shaped tube and it's so entertaining to watch them play with it. I also love when cats choose a favorite toy. My Jiji cat has a tiny stuffed fish taco that he loves to carry around while singing at night and bring to us in the bedroom. The only way to make him stop (it's adorable but we are usually trying to sleep) is to say "thank you Jiji" and then he drops it and jumps on to the bed!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I give cats their space. Even friendly ones warm up to me faster when I'm around them but "ignoring" them sometimes. Cats like to be in control. I'll do a mix of greeting and reaching my hand out for them to smell it and just being quiet in the room with them. I've had a client with a super shy cat that I never saw when I visited. I did as he instructed, looked for her, did food/litter, then hung out on the couch. I loved that he still wanted her to know someone was around.

Cancellation Policy

Customers may cancel within 24 hours of making their reservation and receive a 100% refund, and the sitter will not receive any earnings. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:

Customers will receive a 100% refund to their Account Balance if they cancel anytime up to 48 hours before the start date of the reservation, and the sitter will not receive any earnings.

Customers will receive a 50% refund, and the sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings if the customer cancels between 24-48 hours of the start of the reservation.

No refund will be issued within 24 hours of the reservation, and the sitter will keep 100% of their planned earnings.
