Cat Sitting in Portland, OR

I first fell in love with a cat at 8 years old. He was a family friend named Zorro and for some reason he decided to follow all of my instructions to jump on and off of things, I guess because he liked my reactions, because he did not do this for anyone else. Cats. I have loved many many cats since, and my friends can tell you about all of them in excruciating detail. If you're wondering, none of my other cat friends reliably (or sometimes ever) follow my instructions, but they are all perfect.

I started cat sitting about 10 years ago, first for friends and friends of friends, and later moving on to a more app-based lifestyle. I've cared for kittens, senior kitties with special medical needs, cuddle buddies, cat-letes who require regular wand toy...

I've cared for kittens, senior kitties with special medical needs, cuddle buddies, cat-letes who require regular wand toy exercise, very shy kitties who want to come out of their shells and be besties, and very shy kitties who prefer their space.

My medication experience includes betraying my cat on a monthly basis with her preventative flea topical, eye drops, liquid oral meds, pills both by popper/shooter and hidden in treats, and powder/liquid mixed with wet food.

My own baby girl is a four year old medium hair tortoiseshell named Bumblebee. She's so so smart, very curious, a social kitty, and either aggressively cuddly or demonstrating classic tortitude, depending on her mood. She's the loudest purrer I know, the most stealthy escape artist, and the best and most perfect in the entire world. She owns my whole heart, and refuses to share with any other cats. So here I am, lying to her about what I'm typing because I deserve to have other cat friends!

I've learned through my time cat sitting that every kitty has unique needs and every cat parent has their own way to satisfy these needs. I know I can't be the parent, but I try my best to replicate the procedure - cats love their routines!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I just love getting to know so many different cats! I love all of my cat friends. They are silly kids and reliably make me laugh. And the cuteness! They all deserve the best and it makes me feel good to give it to them. My favorite is when I earn the trust of a shy kitty because the trust of a cat is special - they don't give it to just anyone, and sometimes it can take a long time to earn. And the reward is so soft, both literally and metaphorically.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Oh great, an opportunity to tell you more about Bumblebee! Like I said earlier, Bumblebee refuses to let me have other cats. She hates other cats so much she literally throws herself against the window when she sees one outside. And then I have to pick her up and remove her from the Situation so she doesn't hurt herself, and she yowls and hisses but doesn't even attack me a little bit, even though she hates being picked up. That's what a good girl she is. Another thing she refuses to do is pay rent. I love her so much.

We were blown away by how good this cat sitting was from Amy! First off she was very prompt and easy to work with! She followed all of our instructions we discussed and everything (our cats stuff) was neat and tidy when we got home! We received a bunch of pictures and videos each day of our cat! They were like really nice photos too! We can’t say enough good things about having Amy as a cat sitter!

Amy is incredible. Travel is anxiety provoking for us, as we had a cat die unexpectedly while we were out of town a couple of years ago. As a result, we rarely leave our kitties. Yet, Amy's love and understanding of cats, made crystal clear during our meet and greet, made us feel comfortable to go away for the night. While we were gone, she sent beautiful photos and videos, as well as descriptive updates of our babes' activities. We could rest easy knowing everyone was healthy, eating well, and being spoiled with attention. Amy's gentle spirit and ability to speak cat are truly invaluable.

Last minute trip made entailed the need for someone to take care of our cats. Amy stepped in, came over in short order for a meet and greet with the cats before we left. She was able to take care of the two indoor cats, even pulling one of them, and the two outdoor cats. Plenty of updates and pictures which really put us at ease in a troubling time. I highly recommend Amy- she did such a wonderful job.

Amy was amazing! She took the time to get to know both of our cats during meet & greet. Even our very shy kitty opened up to her, showing his tummy and everything. We loved the detailed updates and wonderful pics & vids Amy sent us after each visit. (She took very beautiful photos of our black cats with is not easy!) When we came home from a week long trip, the kitties’ fur felt softer than normal which was a sign they were well cared for :)

Very professional, great pictures, communicative, and was able to administer oral pills like a pro. I have had difficulty finding sitters to give Maisie her pills and now I have some peace of mind Amy is always an option to cat sit! My kitty Maisie can be a little “spicy” at times but she truly has found a new friend with Amy!

Amy is great! She took great care of our old man Ollie and shared lots of photos and videos so we could see how he was doing while we were gone. She was patient and really good at making friends with our shy guy. 😸

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Portland cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
