What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
While cats can be independent and appreciate their own autonomy, they are social creatures too. Their routine and life includes their humans- so when their humans are gone I enjoy getting to step in and offer that. Sometimes I can see the relief and excitement when I arrive for the cat too! By being a calming presence for them they too become a calming presence for me.
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I do not have kitties myself but I love all the personalities I meet volunteering at the C.A.T., such as Tommy Totem a fuffy orange guy who was nervous and shy till I gave him some pets and he melted in my hands, Renesme the kitten who leaped on to my shoulder and loved to talk while being held, Cherry Blossom who was shy till you sat down and talked to her them she loved to come to you for pets, Yard the kitten with his little bandit mask who yelled at me till I came and gave him some pets and playtime.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
Cats can hear and smell so much more than us humans, and animals in general are so in tune to body language. Autonomy is also important for cats. I’d want to make myself a calm presence in their world, I want my movements to be steady and predictable, add in a calm voice, but I want it to be their choice to approach or interact. I’m ok being patient and just existing together in a space if that’s all that cat wants at the moment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.

Portland cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
