What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
Cat sitting is wonderful because it’s a unique opportunity to connect with each cat's personality and quirks. Every cat has their own charm (some are playful and adventurous, while others are snugglers who prefer quiet moments.) I love discovering how each cat prefers to interact and finding ways to make them feel comfortable and happy. I take great joy in building trust with them. It's rewarding to provide companionship and care while their owners are away, knowing I'm playing a part in their well-being.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
Look for someone with genuine experience and a love for cats. Ask questions about their background with different cat personalities. It's also important to find a sitter who will take the time to meet your cat before sitting. This helps establish a comfort level for everyone involved. A good cat sitter should also provide regular updates, photos, and be open to discussing any concerns you might have. Most importantly, trust your instincts!
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
My last cat was the grumpiest, most anxiety ridden, scaredy that has ever existed. She loved my husband and me but hated everyone else, especially cat sitters. I had her for 18 years and she just recently passed away. Because of my sweet girl, I know exactly how I wanted a cat sitter to treat her. Taking time to earn their trust, giving them space and allowing them to meet me at their own pace. I avoid sudden movements and dispense gentle treats to build positive associations. And if they don’t warm up, that’s ok too! Just make sure they are fully taken care of and comfortable.

Laura watched my two cats for a weekend and was absolutely wonderful. She is a very responsible and caring person. Definitely someone who will go the extra mile for you and your cats. She sent photos, including videos, from each visit. And I could tell from the videos that my cats adored her. Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Portland cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
