What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
My advice is to know your cat. Some cats don’t like it when people wear hats, some don’t like dogs, and some are cool with anyone and everything. When hiring a cat sitter these nuances are important. If the sitter has dogs at home let them know your cat is dog aggressive so they can make sure there is no dog smell on their clothes. These small thing and make a big difference when it comes to building a relationship with your cat and making sure they feel safe and secure while you are gone.
Are you usually available during holidays?
Yes, I don’t often leave town for holidays and a try plan any out of town “holiday” trips for either before or after the holidays to be available for both cat sitting clients and my day job so folks can have time to spend with their own families.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
When cats are especially timid I respect their space. I will try to be a calm energy in their environment coax them out with treats or toys. But if that doesn’t work I will just sit in the room they are in and do a quiet activity (usually sudoku) and put their favorite toys or treats next to me. This shows them that I am a safe person and lets them come to me when they are ready.

hailey was amazing with accepting to watxh our kitties on short notice, she was great at communicating and coordinating meet up take for introductions and listened to everything regarding care for my sweet boyyos. she wouls sens my multiple photo updates and my boys seemed very comfortable with her. additionally, when one of my babiws threw up on our rug she kindly offered to bring her cleaning equipment to take care of it. she’s an exceptional care giver and i felt and still feel like my cats were in good hands. would 100% book again!

Usually my cat can be very nervous and weary of new people but she was even playing with Hailey on the first day. I felt at ease while I was away knowing that my cat was being well taken care of. Hailey watched our three kitties while we we’re away. One of our cats had been recently diagnosed with a urinary issue so Hailey’s experience with her own cat’s urinary issues made us feel much more comfortable traveling. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Portland cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
