Aunt Liz Sunset Cat Sitting

I'm Liz

Cat Sitting in Berkeley, CA

Hello! My name is Liz Michaud. I am a professional psychotherapist, experienced cat sitter, and life-long cat lover :) I have cat-sat for Meowtel for about 3 years. It’s been a great experience, and I have gotten positive reviews from my customers.

I am extremely trustworthy, responsible, caring, and experienced with cats, and quite a bit of experience catsitting at Meowtel. My job as a therapist requires me to be mindful, caring and trustworthy, and I bring those qualities to caregiving for the animals in my life too. I have established cat-sitting relationships with friends in the Bay Area, and I am happy to be of service to your cats, too :)

For the first 20 years of my life, I always had multiple cats in the home that I grew up in. My family and I saw them through the good times of playfulness and cuddles, as well as the hard times of cat medical issues. This forever solidified my love for cats and equipped me with the awareness of the kinds of care that they need...

I am extremely trustworthy, responsible, caring, and experienced with cats, and quite a bit of experience catsitting at Meowtel.

This forever solidified my love for cats and equipped me with the awareness of the kinds of care that they need.

In 2007, after moving out of NY and into the SF Bay Area, I lived in small apartments which weren't ideal for having my own cats. So, to make sure I was still getting a hearty dose of cat-love in my life, I made myself useful to friends and acquaintances as a cat / dog sitter. It was then that I was first named "Aunt Liz!"

Since then, I have completed many cat-sitting jobs from long-term, live-in arrangements for many months at a time, to drop-in cat care, and everything in between.

I have had experience caring for many different kinds of cats: young, old, tabbys, tortoise-shells, long hair, short hair, Bengal and more. I have cat-owning family members who own specialty cat breeds Sphinx and Devon Rex. My relationship with them over the years has educated me about the unique behavioral and physical needs that caregivers should be aware of for these special cats.

I am familiar with different medication needs that cats sometimes require, and have no problem administering pills, drops and topical ointments. It rarely happens, but in the event that an animal in my care requires immediate medical attention, I bring them to the vet.

Most importantly, I love them! I enjoy taking care of them, and spending time with cats takes care of me, too :)

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I began cat-sitting for Meowtel during the pandemic, and worked through approximately October of 2023. I took a break to focus on my full-time job at the time, but while at Meowtel, I cared for kitties throughout the Berkeley, Albany and Oakland area. For several years prior to joining Meowtel, I regularly cat-sat for friends in the Bay Area, and still do. While growing up, my family and I had cats who we treated as family. We would do anything for them, and I am still this way toward the kitties I care for.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I just can’t even tell you how much I love cats, so just spending time with them and being with them makes my heart leap with joy. I deal with serious subjects during my full-time job as a therapist, so cat sitting is mutually therapeutic - I take care of them, and they absolutely take care of me :)

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I would recommend making a point to meet the potential cat-sitter first (either virtually or in-person, ideally), walk them through what your needs are and the important aspects of your home (how to get in, lock-up, etc) and while asking common-sense questions about the cat sitter’s experience. Just trust your gut. Ask yourself what vibe you’re getting from this person - are they kind? Gentle? Honest? Do they have good judgment? Skills aside, I would recommend asking yourself if your cat-sitter seems to be a kind and gentle person (who will also remember to lock the door on their way out 😂).

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I always make a point to schedule time to meet with a potential new cat parent first. Having a brief video-call is great, but meeting in-person is best. I usually do both. I want to make sure cat parents can meet me, introduce their cat, show me what they need me to do in their home, and go over any special needs that are best discussed in-person. For example, how to unlock the door, how to use electronic cat-care devices, etc. I want cat parents to have the chance to ask me questions and do a vibe-check to make sure they feel comfortable entrusting me with their kitty. I also want to make sure I have a chance to do the same so that both parties can move forward with the reservation with trust and confidence.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I always stay in communication with cat parents throughout the reservation, and in the event that something unexpected happens, I take steps to care for the animals and communicate with cat parents. Cat parents and I should always discuss preferred vet information and emergency contacts beforehand so that we have a plan for unexpected situations. I have good judgment, I lock the door behind me, I don’t leave any products out that could be dangerous for animals, or leave any windows open that they could escape out of. If I make a mistake with something, or have a question, I’ll discuss it with cat parents, and problem-solve together.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I’m a big fan of the fish-pole toy! There’s nothing like the big, athletic leaps that you get with swishing around the fishing-pole. This makes for great cat-pics, too!

Another wonderful experience with Liz! She was really flexible when our travel plans changed and when I somehow accidentally booked the wrong dates. She is always quick to respond to messages and sends great updates with a lot of pictures. Our kitties had a wonderful time! Will definitely be reaching out to Liz again!

Liz is wonderful! We have 3 cats and were nervous about leaving them. Not only did she take great care of them but she even managed to get photos of all three, even the really timid one who "hides" around strangers. Thanks, Liz!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Berkeley cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $40.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
