I'm Lizzy

Cat Sitting in Chicago, IL

Hi there, my name is Lizzy!
From the time I could walk and talk as a child, my house was always full of cats, dogs, birds, and other pets. My mom was a wildlife rehabilitator and raised me as an animal lover to the core. As a result, I've always had a deep sense of comfortability and joy around animals!

That being said, there is a special place in my heart reserved for cats. They can have such a range of personalities and their love is so rewarding! My approach to new kitties is always sensitive towards their body language and communication, and I embrace building a relationship with them over time. Throughout my years of cat sitting I've taken care of young kitties with boundless energy, senior kitties with accessibility needs, shy kitties that need patience (and oftentimes sniffs), and very social kitties who, well, lay it all out for ya...

I currently have two incredibly friendly orange tabbies that are 13 years old! I’ve been solely responsible for taking care of them since I was a teenager, and they are my babies. I understand what it’s like to love your pet with every fiber of your being, and I wish I could have these two forever. My love for my own kitties sets the foundation for the care I take with my clients and their cats.

I’m very familiar with issues like cleaning up kitty barf, making sure cats cannot reach potentially harmful objects that they might like to eat/chew on (mine each have unique habits of their own), administering medication for animals in recovery or with health conditions, sweeping up tracked litter, sensing if there has been spraying, whatever it is - you name it.

I am local to Lakeview (Lakeview East, Boystown, Wrigleyville) and I can easily service Roscoe Village, Irving Park, Lincoln Park, Buena Park, Uptown, Ravenswood, Lincoln Square, Edgewater, and Andersonville neighborhoods. I am happy to service downtown Chicago as well!

When I’m not cuddling with my cats, I can often be found playing flute, teaching music lessons, crocheting, or playing video games!

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've been a certified sitter on Meowtel since 2020, and through that experience I've looked after both young cats and senior cats, and kitties that need medication! Prior to Meowtel I was a regular pet sitter (cats, dogs, and birds) for friends and family members. I've been looking after animals since I was old enough to!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Cats are my favorite animals to spend time with. I love to make new kitty friends!

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

One of the most rewarding moments that sticks with me was when I was cat sitting a very shy kitty named Bob. During my meet & greet and first couple of visits with Bob, he shied away and did not want to be followed, so I gave him space. On the third visit while I was cleaning his litter box, I turned around to see him sniffing me. After that moment, his demeanor completely changed! He became so sweet, playful, and excited when I came to visit him. He was such a sweetheart, and he just needed time to come out of his shell on his own terms. Scent is so important to animals and can really help bridge the gap for apprehensive kitties.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two 12-year-old orange tabbies named Alex and Rafa! They were born in separate litters two days apart, but have been together since I adopted them at two months old. They are bonded brothers, and their love for one another is so precious to me. They clean each other, they cuddle, and they sometimes tussle as brothers do. When I was a child, I always wanted a cat of my own, and my mom said I was not old enough - until one day, when I was 14 and starting high school, she spent several hours sitting with eight kittens at the shelter and came home with these two! They have been with me for nearly half of my life, through every new chapter, every hardship, and every new place I've moved to has only felt like home with them in it.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

We will schedule a meet & greet to go over everything your cat will need while you are away! I will take notes on everything and clarify any questions I may have. If you have any other specifications for home care such as plant care, checking the mail, or taking the trash out, I am happy to help.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I always double-check that the door is locked behind me! During the meet and greet we will also talk about any guidelines you have regarding certain doors to keep closed or if there are certain things to keep your kitty from getting into.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I love using the toys that each cat likes the most! The most rewarding playtime is when a cat is enjoying it, and each cat has their own tastes. My cats love the catnip-filled mice and when they get to chase a string of yarn!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

There is no single formula that will win over each kitty. If a cat is apprehensive, I will only approach slowly and low to the ground, and if their body language suggests it is okay, I give them an opportunity to smell me with my hand facing downwards in a way that is not imposing. Sometimes it can take many encounters for a cat to build trust, and it can be counterproductive to push too far while you are earning their trust. I will also always refer to the owner for the best ways to approach their timid or anxious cat, including their favorite habits, toys, or treats.

It didn't take long after meeting Lizzy to know that my sweet baby Romeo was in good hands. This was my first time booking a cat sitter ever, since I am a new cat mom. Lizzy gave me so much peace of mind and I could tell Romeo loved her! In our initial meeting Lizzy asked a lot of great questions about Romeo and set clear expectations. She also must be a cat whisperer, because Romeo was asking for belly rubs and purring within a few minutes of meeting her. While I was out Lizzy gave thoughtful and detailed messages. I could see Romeo's happiness though every pic and video. Lizzy fed Romeo and cleaned his litterbox exactly as I would have! She also helped take care of a few things around the house like vacuuming and fixing Romeo's cat bed! Lizzy is a rockstar! I would absolutely book her again! She was flexible, empathetic, and has to be one of Romeo's new best friends!

Lizzy did an amazing job watching my cat, Milo! She’s very detail-oriented with her check-ins and kept me updated with tons of photos, which gave me a lot of peace of mind while I was away. Milo can be shy at first, but Lizzy was patient with him, and he quickly warmed up to her. By the end, he really liked her! I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter and will definitely be booking her again.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Chicago cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
