I'm Lily

Cat Sitting in Chicago, IL

My friend once told me that she has never seen someone more in love with cats than I am. I am affectionate and playful, can build trust with new cats quickly, and have the patience to wait for shy or skittish cats to come to me (even if it take a few visits).

What sets me apart is after each visit, I’ll send you tons of photos and detailed written updates: how your cat greeted me, the tasks I completed, what we played, how they are eating and acting, and more. That way, you’ll know exactly how they're doing while you’re away!

I've cared for kittens from just born to senior cats over 17 years old. I have experience with single cats and multiple cats in one household. I've visited playful cats and shy cats, snuggly cats and aloof cats...

I've cared for kittens from just born to senior cats over 17 years old. I have experience with single cats and multiple cats in one household. I've visited playful cats and shy cats, snuggly cats and aloof cats. All your cats are safe with me!

Having had cats all my life, I know how to empty litter boxes filled with all different kinds of litter, clean up messes such as hairballs, feed them wet and dry food, and do other everyday care tasks. I also have experience giving cats inhalers, liquid medication, and pills in pill pockets, mashed in food, or solo. I love playing with cats, and can play different games with the cat toys you have at home or by making toys from everyday items such as shoelaces and hair ties.

I am available to do one-time visits, daily visits for when you’re away, or regular drop-ins. Typically afternoons and evenings - weekdays and weekends - work best for me, but I can be flexible. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need care at other times and I will try my hardest to make it work!

Outside of cat sitting, I work as a part-time oral historian conducting interviews and editing transcripts. I love playing ultimate frisbee, watching women's soccer, cooking and baking, and - most importantly - doing everything possible with my kitty Bear.

I’m so excited to meet your kitties!

Learn More About Lily

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been cat sitting professionally - via apps and word of mouth - for about two years. Most of that time, cat sitting was my full-time job. Before that, I was the go-to cat sitter for family and friends for the last 15ish years. I’ve had my own cats even longer than that: since I (and my parents) adopted my first one at age 9. I’ve been obsessed with cats and caring for them ever since!

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

I can't say I have a favorite cat sitting reservation as there are too many cats that I've loved! Certainly the most memorable was when I was doing overnight house sitting for a pregnant mama cat and she gave birth to the kittens while I was alone in the house. (See the five kitten cuties in my photo section!) I ‘helped’ her through it - though she definitely did all the hard work. It then seemed fated that I adopt one of the kittens, so Bear came to me 10 weeks later!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

My kitten’s name is Bear (full name Camembert to honor his pre-adoption name of Cheese). I was housesitting for a pregnant mama cat when she gave birth, and Bear, one of the five kittens, came home with me 10 weeks later! I’m so obsessed with him!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I want to make sure I’m as prepared as possible to give your cat the best care. We'll have a video call or meet and greet to go over the details before the booking, during which I'll ask about the tasks needed of me, such as what and how much to feed them or whether they take medication. I’ll also ask if your cat has a history of medical or behavioral issues that I should keep an eye out for. I love to learn about your cat’s personality – if they are skittish, snuggly, etc. – so I can approach and engage with them in a way that best meets their needs. I also want to know if there are any special habits or games that your cat plays (ex. they want water if they’re standing by the sink) so I can do them too!

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I take detailed instructional notes during our meet and greet, because every cat is different and requires its unique care. Then during each visit, I ensure I complete every required task - feeding, water, litter boxes, medications, etc. - so your cat stays happy and healthy. I am also extremely responsible and will be clean and careful in your home, ensuring the house and your belongings are just as you left them.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I love a good wand toy! Each cat has their own favorite way of pouncing and swatting, and it's always hilarious and adorable to watch them run and twirl and leap after the toy. Close seconds are tossing treats for cats to chase after and laser/light reflections.

Lily was a great sitter! She shared lots of photos and a very detailed message about the visit. During our meet and greet she was also very thorough in her questions in order to make sure all aspects of the visit were addressed including checking on any medication or health history to be aware of. Would highly recommend Lily for your kitties!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Chicago cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
