With our feline friends at home are happy, it makes vacations and work trips go better. That’s why I enjoy filling in while pet parents are temporarily away.

Plus, meeting a new cat is fun! These bundles of joy express individualized personalities, and experiencing them is peak purrfection.

I also have a knack for kitty quirks thanks to training from my family’s first cat. She terrified strangers and made vets fear her appointments, but I got the sweetest cuddles. Beyond that “spicy” kitty experience, I have invested time in learning about about cat breeds and best practices for kitty care.

For me, being entrusted to care for someone’s cat is a high honor, so many thanks for considering me. Please also feel free to reach out with any questions.

Learn More About Mike

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Currently, I have one cat, and her name is Samantha S’mores (former picked by me, latter being her original name). She’s a chocolate, bicolor ragdoll, plays fetch, and loves attention. I was only blessed with her becuase her breeder did an early “retirement” due to Samantha developing anxiety. This also meant earning my kitty required passing the breeder’s bonus criteria. And I’m thankful for that process: My shy and fearful little lady has become a fluffy ball of bossiness, and she makes me smile every day. Growing up, my family had three cats at various points: Chelsea, Thomas, and Colby. All three lived long lives before crossing the rainbow bridge.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Overshare information! Early detection of health concerns requires recognizing “sluggish” and “lethargic” behavior. All cats are unique, which means there is no universal norm for normal behavior. Consider proximity! The unexpected sometimes happens, and someone nearby will be better able to help out. Give options! Beyond the essential/daily needs (food, water, etc), consider the “as time allows” tasks. For example, does your cat need to be brushed? The answer for a short-haired tabby might be different than a Maine Coon. Or if the cat doesn’t seem to want to play, what else can be done? Having options and priorities helps maximize visit time to the fullest.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Alas, the fancy toys don’t interest my cat, so I have no favorite. However, her favorite toys include cardboard boxes, paper packaging, plastic zip ties, and pieces of string (much to my robot vacuum’s delight). Her favorite actual cat toy is basically a big piece of sturdy yarn attached to a plastic handle. It was part of a previous Target Pride collection, and there’s a picture of her in the reviews. She also loves playing fetch with these inexpensive dental shrimp toys from Amazon. Eventually, they disappear into the robot vacuum or get buried in the litter box. At ~$1.50 each, it’s not worth the effort to rehabilitate them, so I rely on a monthly subscription.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

The main focus is helping the cat feel safe, so nothing can be forced. Instead, I move calmly, maintain distance, and focus on tasks like litter box cleaning or food dish refilling. I will also get on my side and give slow blinks to show that I am safe. If something essential requires handling the cat (e.g., meds), I try to invest time in building familiarity. Often, that means arriving early with a book or laptop to unofficially be around the cat before conducting the actual visit, especially in the beginning. That first time an anxious cat comes up and starts purring—it’s a special joy. No matter how often it happens, each time still feels magical.

Mike was amazing. He was very understanding as to how to be patient and take care of my cat. She’s very shy and isn’t around a lot of people so it’s very hard for her to interact and socialize. He gave me photos every day of my cat’s progress and how she was doing and slowly, but surely she let him pet her and give her snacks and treat treats. I will definitely recommend and rebook Mike again. He was amazing.

Mike did a spectacular job watching our cats last weekend. I had a lot of anxiety hiring a catsitter after a bad prior experience, but Mike entirely alleviated that anxiety. His updates were frequent and reassuring, with lots of pictures and text updates. He even spent extra time with the cats. It's obvious he has a genuine love for cats and I would 100% hire him again, and would recommend to anyone looking for a catsitter.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Atlanta cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
