What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've been in the pet sitting game for 2 years now, even having been a full-time sitter for over a year! Cats are definitely my forte, though, and I always look forward to kitty cuddles the most 😻 While I have scaled back my sitting to part-time again due to another job, I still love visiting with all the local kitties and keeping them company while their parents are away :)

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Every cat has a unique personality, and I love getting to know them! I especially love catching up with my repeat kitties - it's so rewarding to see them grow and change over time. But the best part honestly is sharing the photos and stories with their parents, so they can focus on their work or travels and have peace of mind knowing their kids are having a good time while away.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two cat children of my own - Selene & Percy 🐈‍⬛️ Selene is a 7 year old Tuxie we've had for 5 years now, and 3-year-old Percy who joined us a few years ago. Percy is a certified wild man with endless energy who is always climbing, bouncing around, and getting into things; and Selene is a sweet and sassy little girl who prefers a good cuddle and a nice sunny window :)

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

On arrival and departure, I always watch the door very closely to make sure no one is right there trying to greet or pop outside - several have tried! But I'm ready for a quick catch if needed when the door opens :) I make sure to always have eyes on the kitties as soon as I come in and a last headcount and goodbye pets before heading off - to prevent escape artistry, sometimes this means using some toys or treats for a little distraction though! And of course, I lock the door while inside and always double check it's locked on departure with a little jiggle too before heading out.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes! I am available during most major US holidays, with the only exception being New Year's Eve/Day. (As a New Year's baby, I take this holiday to celebrate both my birthday and a great new year 🎊)

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I have lots of experience with timid, shy, and anxious cats! The cat I'm currently the most bonded with (Selene) is extremely shy by nature 🥰. I also had a cat for 16 years who had anxiety, and am very familiar with the needs of these more reserved babies. I find the best approach is to move slowly with them, keeping quiet and still until they are comfortable. No sudden movements or loud noises, just soft, soothing words and a hand ready to pet them if they initiate. If they get anxious while being pet, maybe hissing or swatting from any fear or overstimulation, I just back off, hold my hands in front of me to show I mean no harm, and then start over with quiet words of encouragement and hands to sniff.
