Does Meowtel offer insurance?

Yes. Meowtel offers Meowtel Premium Insurance for eligible reservations through the Meowtel Promise. Coverage includes your listed cat(s) and certain types of property damage at the address listed on the reservation when sitter negligence is verified.


Coverage is automatically included for reservations where each visit is priced at $20 or more after any sitter discounts or promotional coupons have been applied.

Do I have to pay for the insurance?

We charge a Trust & Insurance/Platform Fee of 8.25%, rounded up to the nearest $0.25, on a per-visit basis. This fee helps support Meowtel Premium Insurance and other safety initiatives.


The Trust & Insurance Fee is applied to all confirmed reservations, regardless of whether the reservation ultimately meets the eligibility requirements for insurance coverage. To qualify for Meowtel Premium Insurance, each visit must be priced at $20 or more after any sitter discounts or promotional coupons.

Is the insurance optional?

No. Because Meowtel wants the very best for you and your cats, Meowtel Premium Insurance is automatically included as part of your reservation experience for all qualifying reservations. The Trust & Insurance/Platform Fee is applied to all confirmed reservations, even if the reservation does not meet the eligibility requirements for our insurance coverage.

Is there anything I need to do to be covered by the insurance?

Yes. To be eligible for Meowtel Premium Insurance, all of the following must be met:

  1. Your reservation must qualify for the Meowtel Promise
  2. The Vet Release Form must be completed in your Meowtel account
  3. All cats must be listed on the reservation with complete profiles in My Cats
  4. The reservation must be confirmed and paid for through Meowtel
  5. Each visit for the reservation must be priced at $20 or more after any sitter discounts or promotional coupons

When all of these requirements are met, Meowtel Premium Insurance is automatically included with your reservation.


As a cat-centric platform, Meowtel can only guarantee that our sitters are qualified to care for cats. Therefore, Meowtel Premium Insurance applies only to cats listed on your reservaiton and does not extend to other pets.


Note: Any incident that may qualify for a claim must be reported during the reservation or within 72 hours of its completion.

What is covered by the insurance?

Meowtel Premium Insurance typically covers the following for eligible reservations:

  1. Illness, injury, death, theft, or mysterious disappearance of any cat listed on the reservation
  2. Damage to the client’s home or belongings
  3. Verified sitter-related incidents that occur while the cat is in their care, custody, or control

Are my other pets covered by the insurance?

No. Because Meowtel is a cat-centric platform, Meowtel Premium Insurance only applies to cats listed on your reservation. Other types of pets are not covered, as we can only guarantee that our sitters are qualified to care for cats.

How do I report an incident for a potential insurance claim?

Please email [email protected] or call/text us at 1-844-MEOWTEL for assistance.


To be considered, the incident must be reported during the reservation or within 72 hours of the reservation’s end date. The reservation must qualify for the Meowtel Promise and meet all coverage requirements for Meowtel Premium Insurance.


There is a $500 deductible per incident, which is payable by the sitter. If the total value of the loss is under $500, Meowtel may offer Small Claim Assistance to help resolve the matter quickly and without triggering a formal insurance claim.


All claims are subject to Meowtel’s review and approval based on the terms and conditions of Meowtel Premium Insurance. Meowtel is not responsible for claims that do not meet eligibility criteria or are denied based on policy exclusions.


To be eligible for coverage, the Vet Release Form must be completed and all cats must be listed in your account prior to the reservation.

Is there a deadline to report an incident for a potential insurance claim?

Yes. The sooner we are made aware of an issue, the better assistance we can provide. To be considered for Meowtel Premium Insurance coverage, any incident must be reported during the reservation or within 72 hours of the reservation’s end date.


If you contact us after this window, our ability to assist will be very limited. Attempting to delay or misrepresent the timing of an incident in order to file a claim will result in account deactivation.


Only eligible reservations qualify for the Meowtel Promise and Meowtel Premium Insurance.

How are emergency situations handled?

If your reservation qualifies for the Meowtel Promise, here’s how emergency situations are handled:


First and foremost, your sitter will contact you.


Your sitter will notify Meowtel by calling or texting 844-MEOWTEL (1-844-636-9835) or emailing [email protected].


Your sitter will keep both you and Meowtel updated on the situation and its outcome.


We strongly recommend completing the Vet Release Form before your reservation. This form allows your sitter to take your cat(s) to a veterinarian in case of an emergency. While your sitter will always try to reach you first, the form ensures they can act quickly if you are unreachable and your cat needs urgent care.


Please also make sure your Emergency Contact information is up to date in your account.


In rare cases where your sitter is unable to complete their visit due to an emergency or illness, Meowtel will reach out to other nearby sitters and share their listings with you for approval. We are happy to assist in rebooking your reservation to ensure your cat(s) continue receiving care without interruption.


If your reservation does not qualify for the Meowtel Promise, Meowtel is unable to provide emergency assistance, and we recommend coordinating directly with your sitter.
