Insurance - 9 questions answered
Meowtel proudly offers premium insurance coverage for your beloved kitties and the property at the address listed on the reservation. Click here for more information on the insurance requirements and coverage.
We have a Trust & Insurance/Platform fee of 8.25% rounded up to the nearest $0.25, on a per-visit basis. This is applied to every confirmed, qualified reservation so your cats and your property are covered in the unlikely event that things don't go as planned. You will be charged this fee regardless of whether you meet our insurance requirements or do not want the coverage.
No. Because Meowtel wants the best for you and your cats, the insurance is always included when you make a reservation, given that the requirements are met.
Yes. All of the following must be met:
- Your reservation must be eligible for the Meowtel Promise
- The Vet Release Form must be completed in your Meowtel account
- All cats must be listed on the reservation with complete information in My Cats
- The reservation must be confirmed and paid for through Meowtel
When all of these requirements are met, our insurance is automatically included with your reservation. It’s also important to remember that as a cat-centric platform, Meowtel can only guarantee that our sitters are qualified to care for cats. Therefore, our insurance only covers cats and no additional pets.
Note: An incident that may be eligible for an insurance claim or our service guarantee must be reported during the reservation or within 72 hours of the reservation's completion.
Please reference our Premium Insurance page for full details.
Note: An incident that may be eligible for an insurance claim must be reported to Meowtel during the reservation or within 72 hours of the reservation's completion. Only eligible reservations qualify for the Meowtel Promise and insurance coverage. Cat care profiles and a Vet Release Form (VRF) must be completed prior to the reservation to be eligible for insurance coverage.
No. Being a cat-centric platform, Meowtel can only guarantee that our sitters are qualified with cats. Therefore, we do not insure any pets other than cats.
Please email [email protected] or call/text us at 1-844-MEOWTEL for assistance.
To be considered, the incident must be reported during the reservation or within 72 hours of the reservation's end date, and the reservation must be covered by the Meowtel Promise.
There is a $250 - $500 deductible* per incident, payable by your sitter, depending on the incident and damage incurred. Requests for coverage that do not exceed the deductible amount will not trigger any Meowtel Insurance coverage.
All claims are subject to Meowtel Insurance provider’s acceptance and approval, as well as the terms and conditions of our insurance policy. Meowtel is not responsible for any claims denied by our insurance provider.
*Only eligible reservations qualify for the Meowtel Promise. Cat care profiles and a Vet Release Form (VRF) must be completed prior to the reservation to be eligible for insurance coverage.
Yes - the sooner we are made aware of an issue, the better assistance we can provide! We require that any incident be reported during the reservation or within 72 hours of the reservation's end date.*
Contacting us after this time period will result in very limited assistance. If you are prolonging an issue to attempt an insurance claim, your Meowtel account will be deactivated.
*Only eligible reservations qualify for the Meowtel Promise.
If your reservation qualifies for the Meowtel Promise, these are the steps we ask sitters to follow in emergency situations:
- First and foremost, contact the cat parent (you!)
- Notify Meowtel by calling/texting 844-MEOWTEL (1-844-636-9835) or emailing [email protected]
- Keep the cat parent and Meowtel updated with the course of action and outcome
We highly recommend completing the Vet Release Form in case of emergencies. This form authorizes your sitter to take your kitty to the vet in emergency situations. Your sitter should always notify you first with any health concerns, but having your Vet Release Form filled out ensures they can follow their best judgement to get your cat(s) the care and attention they need, even if you are unable to respond at that moment.
Additionally, please ensure you have your Emergency Contact fields completed.
In the rare event that your Meowtel cat sitter is unable to complete their scheduled visit due to illness or an emergency of their own, we will reach out to other Meowtel sitters to find backup care for your kitties, and will share their listings with you for approval. We are always happy to step in and assist with getting your reservation rebooked, to ensure a smooth transition to a new sitter.
If your reservation does not qualify for the Meowtel Promise, support is not available in emergency situations, and we would suggest handling the matter with your sitter directly.
