Caitlin The Park Slope Cat Sitter

I'm Caitlin

Cat Sitting in Brooklyn, NY

Hello! I am an experienced and compassionate cat sitter in Park Slope who can administer medication, including injections and subcutaneous fluids. I am also a Certified Feline Training and Behavior Specialist (CFTBS), and I care for every pet as if they are my own. It can be stressful for cats when their families are away, so I do everything I can to make my cat sitting visits an enjoyable time for my kitty clients. Not all cats are the same, so I make sure to get to know the temperaments of the kitties I care for, and I tailor my interactions with them to their exact needs.

I particularly enjoy caring for special needs cats, and I've looked after kitties with epilepsy, cerebellar hypoplasia, kidney disease, blindness, and diabetes...

I particularly enjoy caring for special needs cats, and I've looked after kitties with epilepsy, cerebellar hypoplasia, kidney disease, blindness, and diabetes. I also really enjoy caring for shy cats, and I have been very good at quickly winning the trust of standoffish kitties. In order to help care for undersocialized cats and kittens, I completed the "Lion Tamer" training offered by the ASPCA.

I absolutely adore cats, and I've spent the last several years volunteering at my local rescues, fostering kittens, and writing about special needs kitties! I have three cats of my own, including a special needs kitten with cerebellar hypoplasia, and I love sitting because it enables me to make new feline friends while helping their families.

When I'm not cat sitting, I create videos and write articles about special needs cats to help raise awareness about imperfectly perfect kitties!

AVAILABILITY NOTICE: If you are an existing client and I'm not available during your desired time period, please text or direct message me with your required dates and I will do my best to accommodate you!

Learn More About Caitlin

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've been a professional cat sitter for over five years, and I have a lot of experience caring for cats with special needs. In addition to sitting for special needs kitties, one of my cats is blind, another has IBS, and a third has cerebellar hypoplasia.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love getting to spend time with cats (playing, petting, and brushing them is fun and relaxing), and I adore forging bonds with new feline friends. I also like knowing that I give my clients peace of mind that their cats are in safe hands while they're away.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

One of my favorite kitty clients is a senior who wants nothing more than to snuggle. He absolutely adores chin and head rubs and will happily sit on my lap for the visit (after I attend to his litter, food, and water, of course). I also love sitting for active cats! I've been fostering kittens for more than years, so I have lots of tricks I use to tire out cats who need a lot of stimulation.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have four cats! We recently adopted, Wiggles, a blind tortie kitten we met while fostering for the ASPCA. She lost her eyes due to a severe infection, but she has very few issues getting around. She is an absolute doll and I'm very proud to say I was able to teach her how to use stairs. We have a 5yo fluffy black and white cat named Keanu. He has cerebellar hypoplasia, and we adopted him as a kitten. He is an incredibly sweet and determined boy. I have a sweet tabby tux named Alex. He's 12yo and he was one of our first foster kittens. He has IBS and requires a special diet and medication. We have a 12yo black and white kitty named Charlie. We were volunteering at a rescue when we adopted her as a kitten. She was so spunky, and today she's a loving lap cat.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

When dealing with timid or anxious cats, I do my best to appear as unthreatening as possible. This includes speaking and moving quietly, and removing items of clothing, such as a bulky winter coat, they might find intimidating. I usually begin the visit by tending to the food, litter, and water to give the cats time to realize I'm not a threatening presence. I also use toys like wand toys and laser pointers that enable me to engage with shy cats from a distance. I may also try slow blinking, but I'm careful never to make prolonged eye contact with shy and nervous cats. I find that treats (if permitted by the client) can help shy cats begun to build positive associations with me.

Caitlin was so fantastic with our cat Izzy! She sent the best pictures and videos (like professional level - it made us think maybe Izzy should model). And she was super communicative with us, which made us feel comforted that Izzy was in safe hands. Caitlin is truly a cat guru! We've already booked again.

We absolutely adore Caitlin! We’ve been using her cat-sitting services for a while now, and every time she takes care of our two fur babies, we know they’re in the best hands. She goes above and beyond with spending quality time playing with them, giving thoughtful updates, and sending us the sweetest photos that always put our minds at ease. We always come home to happy, relaxed cats and that peace of mind is priceless. Caitlin is reliable, communicative, and clearly loves what she does. We’re so grateful to have found her! She’s the cat’s meow.

We have used Caitlin several times, and she has consistently done an excellent job of caring for our now 16-year old senior cat. In addition to making sure he gets his medication, she always sends detailed updates after each visit, along with amazing photos and even a few videos. Thank you Caitlin!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Brooklyn cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
