I'm David

Cat Sitting in Brooklyn, NY

I have been a lifelong pet owner and animal lover, having raised both cats and dogs since my early childhood. I am, by profession, an IT Specialist, but began, over the past few years, scaling back and working from home, which afforded me
the opportunity to make cat-sitting a major focus.

If asked about my general philosophy around cat-sitting, I would say this: many people view cats as being such self-sufficient creatures, and it’s easy for them to take for granted the notion that they are just fine when left alone. Being so familiar with them, and having spent as much time as I have taking care of other people's cats over the years, I realize how untrue this is. It is important for the cats, as well as their humans to have someone there--not just to feed them & clean their litter boxes, but to provide a consistent level of companionship and stress-relieving stimulation, if even only for a brief amount of time every day...

It is important for the cats, as well as their humans to have someone there--not just to feed them & clean their litter boxes, but to provide a consistent level of companionship and stress-relieving stimulation, if even only for a brief amount of time every day.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn where I was surrounded by my family’s cats and dogs until I went away to Stony Brook University for my undergraduate education. It was then that I experienced the sorrow of losing a pet for the first time when my American Wirehair mix, Cookie passed away while I was away at school. I credit this experience, in part, with helping to shape the empathy with which I approach the care of another person’s cat(s)--particularly those with health concerns or of advanced age. Treating your cat(s) with the care and affection that I would my own beloved pet is my guiding principle and reflects the baseline standard of care that I provide.

For the most part, the cat leads this process. For one cat, play might provide the perfect stress release, and I'm there for it! For another, gentle belly-rubs and cuddles might be the need for which I am also always ready. This sort of approach is something that I feel is an essential part of the service provided to both the cat(s) and their human(s), and it is work that brings me great joy!

I am available in the following New York City areas: Bed-Stuy / Bedford-Stuyvesant, Fort Greene, Clinton Hills, Park Slope, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Kensingtonn, Long Island City (L.IC), Midtown East, and Lower Manhattan (Financial District / Wall Street area).

Learn More About David

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've been cat sitting on and off for 20 years now, but doing it on a consistent basis, professionally, for about 10 years.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I have to be honest and say that cat sitting is mostly a selfish endeavor. The serotonin Boost from the time spent with them is a treasured gift! But also, knowing that I am helping to put someone else's mind at ease while they are away from their beloved pet is a reward in and of itself.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I most certainly do have kitties of my own! They are Jadzia and Geordi, named after Star Trek characters 🖖🏾 #LLaP

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, I am usually available during holidays, though it is important to book as early as possible, as they fill up very quickly.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I'm quite adept at the laser. Or any feather or squiggly thing attached to a wand. Honestly, I find the simpler, the better.

David took great of our cats. He informed us when temperatures in the apartment were too low for the cats to be comfortable and graciously dealed with the litter box issues of one of our cats. He gave us tips around litter box set up and it’s working! David deeply cares about cats‘ health and wellbeing. He even fed the two feral cats in our backyard.

This was our first time working with David and our cat Mushu. We were looking for a sitter who had experience administering subcutaneous liquids because our cat has kidney disease and David was recommended by a friend of a friend. David was so great and provided very thorough updates, photos and videos. It's clear David spent quality time with Mushu and the two definitely started developing a strong rapport. It's a huge relief to have found a sitter like David who can help with Mushu's liquids when we're out of town.

Once again, David goes so above and beyond that I am amazed. Our boys trust him, he administers medications like it's no big deal, and our complicated feeding instructions are carefully followed (one cat likes one type of wet food, a second one likes a different kind, and the third one gets 1/3 of each of the other twos cans of food, plus all 3 get varying amounts of kibble since one is on a strict diet). Thank you for making the longer appointments work, despite me having booked the wrong kind twice. Highly recommended like always - David is basically family at this point.

David took wonderful care of our five kitties while we were out of the country. We got so much joy from the many photos and videos he sent each day. Most importantly, the cats clearly enjoyed their time with him.

After a few times booking with David for planned trips, I needed to book him in a pinch and it was such a smooth experience. He was extremely communicative as usual and remembered details about my two elderly ladies. It was total peace of mind to book with David!

We absolutely loved having David as our cat sitter! He took such great care of our two cats, spending time playing with both of them and even winning over our older, super skittish cat (a miracle!). He kept us updated with the best messages and the pictures—so cute, we looked forward to them every day. Leaving two cats at home while traveling is usually stressful, but this time we had zero worries and could actually enjoy our trip knowing they were in amazing hands. Couldn’t recommend him more!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Brooklyn cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
