I'm Emiley

Cat Sitting in Brooklyn, NY

Hi ◡̈
My name is Emiley, I’m 31 years old and I have three cats named Peppa, Chilli, and Hobbs. They all came from ACC NYC, a shelter I used to work at as a placement/rescue coordinator. Before I started working there I grew up with dogs of all sizes and I would have identified myself as a dog person. I had the typical experience of meeting “mean” cats in my childhood. But after working with so many cats and dogs and learning about cat/dog behavior, I remembered all those “mean cats” I had met and my heart melted for them. Because they were misunderstood and I wasn’t understanding what they were communicating with me...
Because they were misunderstood and I wasn’t understanding what they were communicating with me. I’ve worked with dogs and cats under immense stress so I have experienced behaviors throughout the whole spectrum and have learned how to understand and respond to what they are communicating or expressing in the moment.
I work remotely at the moment with a flexible schedule and I wanted to earn some side income doing something I enjoyed and I also believe I am someone another cat parent can trust to watch over their baby/give them the best care they can have. I love my babies ridiculously and I always treat other animals the same I would my own. The first thing I would do as a cat sitter is to go slow, and let them approach me. If they want to play I’d use a wand toy or their favorite toy. If they are a little weary, I’d sit with them and enjoy their company ◡̈ Whatever they want, it’s the cats’ rules.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have three black cats. Peppa and Chilli. Both boys and brothers. They are almost four years old and are foster fails 🤣 My third is Hobbs, she’s a tiny female black cat, one year younger than the boys. She came into the shelter at 3 months old and got adopted but then returned for being destructive. She was kinda feral. I took a chance on her and decided to foster her. She hit it off immediately with the boys and they really helped her open up. I had to go very slowly to gain her trust and we’ve come a long way. She wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but here with us so I decided I couldn’t give her up and now I have three cats.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Always carefully open and close the door and lock it. Stick to all the rules and routine of the parent’s instructions. Never open the window or change anything for that matter unless needed and notifying the parent. I used to dog walk and dog sit so I have experience in managing the home and animal safety simultaneously.

What is your favorite cat toy?

The wand toy! This is such a great toy when meeting a cat for the first time because it keeps a safe distance for them but it’s something we can interact with together. It is also fun for the cat because they can practice their hunting instincts and be rewarded when they catch it. It also wears out energy. I usually play with my cats before feeding because it mimics hunting and eating in the wild. Also better for digestion and appetite.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Brooklyn cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
