What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been cat sitting for as long as I can remember. The earliest being 14 when I was trusted by friends and family with ther fur-babies. In late 2023 I began working as a part-time cat sitter outside my family on Rover. I haven’t had any complaints or problems. I’m still currently a reliable go-to sitter for many of the wonderful pet parents I’ve met on Rover and hope to meet more on here! :)

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two kitties! Both are rescues that I adopted back in 2022 when they desperately needed a home. Their names are Diamond and Lemon! They’re practically my family :)

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When working with a new cat parent I always ensure that there is a lot of communication between us. I answer their messages and any questions as soon as I possibly can before scheduling a meet and greet to meet both the cat and the owner to see if it’s a perfect fit. From there if both the owner and cat are comfortable with me I book their request! But the communication doesn’t stop there, while caring for their cat I make sure to send frequent updates of their kitty. I usually send pictures, videos, and little status updates. I especially do this for cats that need medication or accommodations!

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I always follow any directions given to me by the client. I always ensure to ask beforehand what areas a cat are allowed access to and what activities are most enjoyable/safe for them. From prior experience I am knowledgeable on what is safe and what is dangerous/toxic for cats so I am always cautious about keeping these hazards away from cats. I make sure to always have a cat within my vicinity at all times or at least every hour or so. I never open any doors to strangers unless instructed to and I never invite others over/bring others with me on house sittings unless they have met the owner prior/the owner is made aware of them being in their home. I always lock any outside doors/gates that aren’t in use and I am comfortable with any security systems/cameras that may be present as long as I am informed.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I really enjoy working with cats who are timid or anxious. I too am the same sometimes so I understand that they need a little extra time to step out of their comfort zone. Usually I will keep my distance and let them decide when it is the right time to approach. Even then I make sure that I take it very slowly. Offering small treats first until I am trusted enough to fully pet them. I always ensure that they aren’t stressed or feel unsafe/uncomfortable with me by not crossing any of their boundaries.
