5 Purrfect Summer Activities for Cat Lovers in SoCal
Is there anything better than cats and sunshine? If you find yourself visiting Southern California this summer, you can experience both! We’ve put together a list of the 5 things to do that will make your summer absolutely meow-gical.
1: Stop By CatCon LA
CatCon - Aug 3rd - 4th, 2024 Pasadena, CA
If you want to be fully immersed in everything ‘cat’ this summer, then CatCon is the place to be. It's like stepping into a cat wonderland! Turn left and you’ll be greeted with cool cat art; turn right to dive into a booth filled with unique cat apparel. In front of you, you’ll find a wall of handmade cat toys, and behind you is a booth filled with beautifully crafted cat furniture. Surrounding you in every direction are fellow cat enthusiasts, some dressed in the most extravagant cat themed outfits. You can even meet some of your favorite cat influencers, or as CatCon calls them “celebricats”. Our own Timothy (and Meowtel team) will be there, ready to meet you in purrson, so make sure to stop by our booth. And of course there’s real cats available to visit with and pawsibly take home in the Adoption Village.
2: Shop Cat ‘Treats’ 🛍️
Your summer SoCal visit wouldn’t be complete without snagging a delightful treat for your kitty—and purrhaps a little something for yourself, too! 😉
Catnip Coalition - Burbank, CA
This vintage mall is an eccentric cat lover's dream. They offer an ever changing offering of quirky cat-themed items like handmade art, and collectables purrfect for adding a little kitty flare to your home. A portion of their proceeds go towards local foster and rescue efforts.
Purrgatory - San Diego, CA
Before your trip comes to an end, you’ll want to make a stop at this meowvelous boutique gift shop where you can pick out the purrfect little souvenir to take home to your kitty - and maybe, a unique memento to remember your trip.
3: Visit a Cat Cafe
While summer in SoCal can be a ton of fun, it can also mean a lot of high temperatures. Escape the Cali heat and enjoy some kitty cuddles in the AC - and maybe with an iced drink too. Here’s a couple of our faves:
Crumbs and Whiskers - Los Angeles, CA
Crumbs and Whiskers partners with local rescues who save at-risk cats and kittens and house them in their cafe and to hopefully connect with their furever home. They have saved over 3,000 cats and raised over 50k to charities so far. While you’re there, you can cool off with an iced green tea or an iced chai latte.
Feline Social Club - Long Beach, CA
Feline Social Club has over 40 adoptable cats ready to play from their rescue partner, Long Beach Felines. They host a ton of cat themed events like “meow chow” where you can witness the cute chaos of feeding time, and “Crochet With Cats” where you can craft with some of the most adorable cats.
Meowtel Editor Cass: I love going to cat cafes and had a great time at Cat Cafe and Lounge in LA. They have a huge room to play with the kitties and more toys than you can imagine. Even though my home is currently at capacity (🐈⬛🐈🐈), I stopped by to spend time with the babies and to get a little treat.🧋
4: Peep the Cats at Disneyland
Disneyland - Anaheim, CA
If you have a trip to Disneyland planned this summer, it doesn’t have to revolve solely around the mouse. Disneyland is home to many roaming cats, and if you hang out in the right spots, you might catch a glimpse. The kitty lore is so rich that they even have their own website, wiki page, and Instagram!
5: Dine at Cat Themed Restaurants
Hello Kitty Grand Cafe - Irvine, CA
Visit the Hello Kitty Grand Cafe for a full menu of cute delectable treats and Hello Kitty’s adorable face posted everywhere. You can even cool off with a blended frozen mocha chip or an Iced rose tea while soaking in the Sanrio kitty cuteness!
