Cat Sitting in New York, NY

Hi! I’m Tessa and I’m a lifelong animal lover who takes a calm, consistent, and respectful approach to cat care. I grew up in a house full of cats — my mom currently has six — so I’ve been around cats with every kind of personality since I was little. Because of that, I’m comfortable with shy cats, curious cats, cuddly cats, seniors, and the occasional spicy one.

When I’m sitting, I make sure your cat’s routine stays the same so they feel safe and secure. Feeding, litter, medication if needed, playtime, and comfort are all done with attention to detail. I pay close attention to body language and let each cat set the pace.

I’m also consistent about communication, photos, and updates because I know how hard it is to leave your pet behind when you travel. I genuinely enjoy spending time with animals and I treat every cat like my own (especially since I can’t have one right now) with respect, gentleness, and lots of love (on their terms!)

Learn More About Tessa

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been cat sitting since 2016. When I first moved out on my own, I really missed having cats around because I grew up with them (my mom currently has six!), so it felt very natural to start sitting for friends, neighbors, and people in my building. I honestly couldn’t believe I could get paid to spend time with cats, it didn’t even feel like “work” to me. Over the years I’ve gotten to know cats with so many different personalities and comfort levels, and that’s what made me love cat sitting even more.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

What I like most about cat sitting is getting to build a relationship with each cat and earning their trust over time. There’s something really special about walking into a home and having a cat who was once shy decide to come sit near you or rub against your leg. I love seeing them feeling relaxed, happy, and totally themselves in their own space, even while their owner is away. It makes me feel good knowing I helped make that happen and that they’re comfortable and cared for in the place they feel safest.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I think the most important thing when hiring a cat sitter is reliability and someone who’s willing to follow things the way you do them. I believe you know your cat best and what works for them so I’m really here to listen and take care of your cat the way you like it and know to work. A good sitter shouldn’t come in with their own agenda, they should listen, ask questions, and be happy to do things your way. Consistent updates are also huge for peace of mind, so I’d always look for someone who communicates clearly and doesn’t leave you guessing.

I’ve known Tessa for 12 years and she’s been taking care of my cats for like 10 of them. I really wouldn’t trust my babies with anyone else tbh. She’s really easy to communicate with and she makes sure my cats have everything they need in terms of food, love, cuddles and everything. I also feel so secure when I’m away and she’s with my cats because she always sends me pictures and checks in with me when she gets there and everything. She is the best truly.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

New York cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $31.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
