What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I started cat sitting with Meowtel in July 2024 and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I met cute, playful, and shy kitties. It gives me joy to figure out the personality of each cat and to find out what makes them comfortable. Some cats love to play or enjoy tummy rubs. The more shy ones just like to be close by, but not too close. I have looked after our neighbor’s older cat for years. When our neighbors are on holidays, I visit Kirby twice per day. It is a delight to hear her happy meows when I open the door and her purrs when I rub her tummy. Over the past 20 years, I have lived with 7 cats, including two stray cats who adopted me as their cat parent. I know when cats look unhappy or unwell.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love cat sitting because I feel I can make a difference on how a pet experiences the time while their owner is away. It is very rewarding being greeted by a furry friend at the door and hearing happy purring during a tummy rub.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

Our neighbors’s cat Kirby is a joy to look after. She greets me at the door each time I arrive at her house and she has the sweetest meow. She enjoys tummy rubs and rewards those with the loudest purrs.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

My two cats are Lilli and PomPom. Lilli is a 15 year old Burmese cat, who loves pats and is a sun seeker- no matter how small the spot of sun, she’ll find it and curl up in it. PomPom is a three year old black tabby, who is very cheeky and inquisitive.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Make sure you are comfortable with the personality of the cat sitter, as your pet will likely feel similarly comfortable.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I will reply to any reservation request and arrange for a meet and greet meeting, which is free. At the meet and greet, I will introduce myself. The cat parents would introduce me to their cat(s) and explain the cat’s personality and needs/preferences and usual feeding and care routines. I will take notes of all the instructions and answer any questions.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I keep personal and property access information confidential and keys in a safe place. I bring no other people onto the property. I make sure window and doors are closed and locked before I leave the property.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I am often available during school holidays.

What is your favorite cat toy?

My favorite cat toy is a feather tied to a stick or a crumpled up piece of paper.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

If I am cat sitting a timid cat, I give him space and allow him to get used to me. I sit on the floor in some distance so he can see me. I see whether he responds to gentle movements of his favorite toy and give him time to come to me.
