What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
Cat sitting has unexpectedly become a creative outlet for me. I’m not an English major or a photographer, but I genuinely enjoy writing visit summaries and taking cute photos of the kitties. Even during shorter visits, the kitties somehow always give me moments worth sharing. It’s a great feeling when I manage to get a fun shot, and even more so when pawrents tell me the updates bring them peace of mind or that the descriptions sound just like their cat. And of course, I get to hang out with cats!! That’s a given, and the best part.
Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?
Spending the holidays with two senior cats was such a memorable experience for me. With my family overseas, I'm used to the solo holiday routine. So it was a nice change of pace to be with the little ones. One of the cats was a bit reserved at first, but I got to see her gradually warm up and bond with me. The other cat was a laid-back buddy who always kept my feet warm at night. I loved relaxing with them on the sofa in the evenings, sipping hot tea while we enjoyed classical music and holiday-themed cat TV.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I observe their body language and respect their boundaries. Cats are sensitive souls so I aim to minimize any potential stress. I make a conscious effort to be unobtrusive as I move about. I prefer to sit on the floor to avoid looming over them. I refrain from approaching shy cats directly. I've found that giving them space and looking away can be helpful. The rule of thumb: let the cats come to you in their own time. My clients have also told me that I have a calm energy.

Nicolette stayed for 5 overnights in a row to take care of my 2.5 year old Maine Coon/Tabby mix. Biscuit is my only cat (and first cat), has a very specific diet, and needs a lot of attention! When they first met, Nicolette sat on the ground, slowly extended a finger and didn't make eye contact. This was exactly what my cat needed to feel safe enough to approach her. I hired Nicolette to stay over for a single night and that went perfectly. Nicolette was very professional while remaining warm. She had great boundaries and was extremely respectful of my space and numerous directions and requests. She fed, brushed and played with Biscuit throughout each day. She always responded quickly and sent many photos and videos before I even requested them. I felt very safe leaving my entire home and baby in her caring hands. I could tell by the photos , videos and one FaceTime that she and Biscuit had a sweet connection and Biscuit felt safe. This was so important, being the first time I hired a stranger to cat and house sit. I give Nicolette my highest recommendation and will use her again for short and long visits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Los Angeles cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $36.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
