I worked at a cat shelter in Chicago for three years, doing every aspect of cat care from feeding to medications. Oftentimes with hard to handle kitties, as we held many feral cats in the space. I have an affinity for shyer cats and do well with all kitties as my calm patient quiet presence lends itself well to making animals comfortable. I have also had four kitties myself, seniors and former strays so I have much experience with and love of, aging and shy cats! I feel confident in giving medications and monitoring health... Hi I'm Lesley (he/they)! I know as a cat parent myself how hard it can be to leave your kitty when you are traveling! I want to put your mind at ease that when you aren't there with your cat, that they are well cared for and paid attention to.

I pay a lot of attention to cat's body language and behavior and any changes.
I'm also just passionate about animals and like to spend my free time helping out in that field. I have volunteered with the Eugene Humane Society, socializing kittens and cleaning, Feral Cat Coalition, in their spay and neuter clinic, and at Patient Pet Advocates, an org that assists with the animals of people going into hospice, as a volunteer coordinator and socializer! I really value being given the opportunity to engage with animals and improve their quality of life.
I'm also passionate about social justice, the natural world, reading, hiking, cooking, and going on adventures!
I work a M-F 8:30a-5p job but otherwise am available. Don't hesitate to ask even if you are outside what is on my zip code map!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I love the sense that I can comfort both the kitty and the kitty owner during a potentially stressful time of them being away, by my care, communication, and attention!
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I have one kitty, Moon 🌝 who showed up to my tiny house when I lived in Eugene. Took about a year and a half to win him over and then brought him to Portland for an attempt at being an indoor cat! It's gone so well and he is in much better health and the goofiest around 🤗
Are you usually available during holidays?
Yes available all holidays! I don't generally go out of town during any holiday periods. So I'm free for all.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
Giving them their space. Bringing my quiet and calm energy. Using strategies such as treats or long wand toys to interact with them from a safe space. Being mindful of where they seem to be safe and comfortable and allowing them that bubble.

I always avoid travel because I’m nervous about leaving my cat alone, and I don’t know a lot of people in this city yet. When I couldn’t avoid a work trip anymore, Lesley came to the rescue by putting me and my shy kitty at ease! I was reassured by the detailed photo updates to let me know her health was normal and she was getting plenty of grooming, playtime, and cuddles. She had a minor vomit incident on her first night, and Lesley went above and beyond by cleaning it up. This was a wonderful experience. Next time I need a cat sitter, I’m booking with Lesley!

Lesley was a perfect fit for son who is very shy. Lesley's calm demeanor and special understanding of shy cats was a plus. My son quickly warmed up to Lesley and I'm very grateful. Due to an issue before my return trip home I needed an extra day of service and both Meowtel and Lesley were accommodating. We are so happy with the care that Lesley gave our two cats! They shared multiple pictures during each visit, showing our cats enjoying feeding and play time each day. It was obvious that Lesley is very much a cat person and enjoys spending time with them. Everything was left clean and in good order. We are unfortunately no longer in Lesley's service area - otherwise we'd definitely have them back!

I'm so glad to have found Lesley. My cat has struggled with other sitters and being taken of by anyone other than his people but Lesley changed that. Lesley immediately had strong rapport with my cat and was able to understand his needs even when my cat might not have been the most friendly. I cannot recommend Lesley enough.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Portland cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.
