I'm Madeline | Cat Sitting in Portland, OR

*About Me (and My Cats)* Hi there! My name’s Madeline and I joined Meowtel to broaden my network and meet more cats. I currently live in Portland with my husband and two sweet kitties, Grandpaw (age 11) and Pepito (age 1.5). I would absolutely love the opportunity to take care of your companion animals, too! >^. .^< Cats have always been an important part of my life: • I grew up with cats and bonded with one during preschool who stayed by my side until college • I’ve volunteered at humane societies and have experience with a wide spectrum of cat personalities • I’ve cat-sit for many felines over the years and am known as a cat enthusiast by friends and family *My Approach* Whenever I meet a new cat, I always move slowly and respect their independence. Each cat has a different backstory and unique needs. Some cats demand head scratches immediately while others hide under the bed. Either way, I believe there is plenty of time to win their tru...

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I prefer a daily check-in to ensure the safety and security of the cats I watch. It’s important that I have eyes on both the cats and their environment each day. I like to do a walkthrough to look for anything unusual or concerning (hairballs, knocked-over plants, etc.). Daily visits are also beneficial because they allow cats to establish a routine while their humans are away.

What is your favorite cat toy?

It depends! Cats have different preferences, and I enjoy the process of discovering their favorite toys. My older cat loves the catnip pickle. My little one loves rattle mice but is indifferent to soft mice toys. Some cats like to chase balls, while others prefer the wand toy. I’ve found that each cat has their own style of play (even seniors!).

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I pay extra close attention to their verbal and nonverbal language. I never force interaction, especially if a cat is afraid. During the first few visits, I usually sit nearby and talk to help them acclimate to my presence (unless the cat is scared—then I respect their boundary and don’t talk at all). As the cat gets used to my presence, I’ll try new tactics, like introducing toys and treats. Sometimes winning over a timid cat is a slow process, but the result is rewarding!

Attention to Detail

Madeline was great! She showed up on time for our meet and greet, and was very friendly and asked a bunch of questions to get all the info she needed. She took such great pictures of our cat and he looked like he was having such a good time with her.

Madeline has won over the heart of our kitty! She knows how to interact with him in just the right way and how to care for him. We always know he is receiving the best of the best when Madeline is there. Add to that, Madeline's updates are amazingly detailed and informative, and her photos and videos are the best! She captures the most incredible moments. We are so grateful.

We love Madeline and most importantly so does our kitty Oyster! He can be a little shy so having a consistent care giver has been great. He loves her so much and she gives the best updates that make us feel not so guilty for leaving our little guy!

Madeline was fantastic! She sent grest updates and photos, and was also able to get my shy kitty to come out and play. In preparation for the visit, she was detail oriented and asked great questions. Would definitely recommend Madeline to others, and also look forward to having her watch my kitties again in the future!

Frequently Asked Questions

will vary based on the pet sitter's experience and expertise, but the average price for a cat sitter is $33.00. Prices will also depend on how long your cat needs company for, whether that be a drop-in visit or overnight stay in your home. Meowtel sitters offer 20, 45, and 60-minute drop-in visits that allow for fully tailored care for your kitties. Your caregiver may also need to charge a little more if they have to travel far, so we'll match you with the best options which are close by.

Every Meowtel cat sitter has been thoroughly vetted, background-checked, and is insured through Meowtel on eligible reservations via our Meowtel Promise. To ensure total peace of mind while you're away, every Meowtel reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can have full confidence in your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress for your kitties. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend that you book daily visits with your sitter to keep your cats in their routine and to help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each Meowtel cat sitting visit will include the whole 9 yards: feeding, refreshing the water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, as well as any special requests you may have. We know every kitty is different and that's why we offer tailored, in-home services since cats don't do well outside their own homes. Plus, every reservation comes with a free Meet & Greet so you can meet your sitter before you leave to ensure it will be a purrfect fit.
